olive
The olive, botanical name Olea europaea, meaning 'European olive', is a species of small tree or shrub in the family Oleaceae, found traditionally in the Mediterranean Basin. The species is cultivated in all the countries of the Mediterranean, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, North and South America and South Africa. Olea europaea is the type species for the genus Olea.
The olive's fruit, also called an "olive", is of major agricultural importance in the Mediterranean region as the source of olive oil; it is one of the core ingredients in Mediterranean cuisine. The tree and its fruit give their name to the plant family, which also includes species such as lilacs, jasmine, Forsythia, and the true ash trees (Fraxinus).
When in shrub form, it is known as Olea europaea 'Montra', dwarf olive, or little olive. The shrub does not produce any fruit.
I have an old stop tap which when I try to connect 15mm pipe to it the compression nut is too big. I cant use a new compression nut because the thread is different - imperial. A normal 15mm olive doesn't compress properly. I suspect I need a tapered olive - anyone know where I can get one from...
Hi there - bought a pegler CH pump valve - 1 1/2" to 22mm compression fitting (are there any other with difference connections). Thought that I could remove the compression nut and olive and connect to a 3/4" BSP female coupler - but the screw thread won't engage in the coupler. I've done this...
As you know I have been doing some plumbing and started soldering for the first time, Iam pleased to announce that all my soldered joints were spot on and didnt have one leak ;)
I have come across a new problem though, this is the 4th radiator I have installed in the house (along with many...
Does anyone have any ideas as to the sourcing of Conex compression fittings for a 42mm waste pipe which comes from a victorian Belfast sink. We are short of just one cap nut and are reluctant to buy a whole straight coupling. I enclose a couple of pictures if this makes things clearer. Thanks...
Hi I have an Isolation valve on a pipe run to a radiator, its leaking from the top, where you put the screwdriver to turn the valve if you want to stop the water flow, I've two questions.
I've noticed when you put the screwdriver to turn it you can push in the head at the top, is that normal if...

Today I've put some new 22mm ballofix valves onto some old pipework.
They tighten up to what would usually be enough, but if I get a spanner on the fitting, I can still rotate the fitting on the old pipe. I'm aware old pipe appears a touch smaller.
I've dressed the olives in V2 paste, but yet...
Hi All
I need to move my washer to a new location, but the isolation valve to the washer has failed. It is a tap type and the water still flows. The tap feels loose and seems just to be turning without closing the valve.
Can I just replace this with another valve of the same type? Will the...
Hi all, following on from a recent question that i asked about hot water cylinders. I have to swap over an existing 450 x 900 cylinder with another of the same size. The only difference being the new cylinder is stainless steel as it was a good price and comes with a good warranty. The tappings...

I changed my bath shower mixer tap in my upstairs bathroom at the weekend but my pipework is imperial three quarter inch and I couldn't stop the tap connector from leaking. The access is really tight so I couldn't get the PTFE tape to the threads despite trying for hours. I spoke to a friend who...

had my second experience of 3/4 " pipe on sat,
I managed to use 3/4" to 22mm pushfit (had one in van) and a new 22mm tank connector.
but was wondering what other options are available as dont like using plastic.
Is there solder and compression?
what is the cheapest option?
Hi
I'm just doing some work on my central heating and wanted to replace some of tye radiator valves that are old and seem to be in poor condition.
However the new valves that I've bought have different sized nuts on the 15mm pipe to the old ones. I need to remove the old olive to get the nut...
Oh dear.
I had to drain & re-fill my open vent system while messing about changing the tanks in the loft (i now know i needn't have drained it fully - but that's ano story!)
Anyway on refilling, i was letting some water flush through the system & out at the drain off radiator valve by the...
Hi All,
Non-plumber here but am competent at small jobs so please bear with my apparently simple question. This is my first post too :)
I have a leak on the bottom of my radiator valve where is connects to the pipe which supplies one side.
The only way I can think of fixing it is to take off...
Hi, I'm having that "why did I start that job at 3:00pm on a Sunday afternoon feeling" :confused5:
I thought this would be an easy job, but already it's proving frustrating. I'm looking to replace an old Mira Excel EV thermostatic shower with a new Mira Excel EV thermostatic shower. Should...
Are 22mm olives ok on 3/4 imperial copper only I fitted a 22mm ballofix on old bath supplies earlier and I didn't feel them grip as well as normal and although they weren't weeping at all I feel a bit paranoid about now?
Hi all, Ive been given a bottle of the stuff today and was wandering if its good on compression rings aswell. says only to use it on threaded fittings on the bottle.
I also says it has a 'setting time' for high pressure but works instantly under low pressures. do i have to leave it for a...
