olive

The olive, botanical name Olea europaea, meaning 'European olive', is a species of small tree or shrub in the family Oleaceae, found traditionally in the Mediterranean Basin. The species is cultivated in all the countries of the Mediterranean, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, North and South America and South Africa. Olea europaea is the type species for the genus Olea.
The olive's fruit, also called an "olive", is of major agricultural importance in the Mediterranean region as the source of olive oil; it is one of the core ingredients in Mediterranean cuisine. The tree and its fruit give their name to the plant family, which also includes species such as lilacs, jasmine, Forsythia, and the true ash trees (Fraxinus).
When in shrub form, it is known as Olea europaea 'Montra', dwarf olive, or little olive. The shrub does not produce any fruit.

Why would an olive need to be changed?

Hi, I had some taps changed last year and it turns out one had a very slow leak. It caused quite a lot of damage and the company that fitted them are trying to not accept liability. The report from the engineer says ''IV to hot tap 3rd floor bathroom leaking, replaced olive, all dry and...

"Ox" brand olive cutters - nfg

Replacing 15 x stopcocks @ 22mm thought I'd try cutters as usually I pull 'em and space was tight. These Ox brand 22mm cutters just deform the olive and score the pipe. The jaws don't close properly as witnessed by the burr where the handles meet (pictured) preventing cutting of the olive. Cost...

Copper or brass olive for chrome pipe

Hello all. I hope you are having a nice weekend. I’m adding a new rad to my bathroom and will be using chrome pipe. It’s my understanding that compression fittings can be used straight on the chrome without filing of chrome finish. What olive is best to use. Copper or brass? Many thanks.

Using a yorkshire fitting end instead of olive in compression joint

Has anyone come across this? I've searched a lot and I can't find any instance of it. I'm redoing the plumbing in several rooms for different reasons and I've noticed that a previous plumber has used what appear to be solder ring fittings straight into 15mm compression fittings (no olive)...
