olive
The olive, botanical name Olea europaea, meaning 'European olive', is a species of small tree or shrub in the family Oleaceae, found traditionally in the Mediterranean Basin. The species is cultivated in all the countries of the Mediterranean, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, North and South America and South Africa. Olea europaea is the type species for the genus Olea.
The olive's fruit, also called an "olive", is of major agricultural importance in the Mediterranean region as the source of olive oil; it is one of the core ingredients in Mediterranean cuisine. The tree and its fruit give their name to the plant family, which also includes species such as lilacs, jasmine, Forsythia, and the true ash trees (Fraxinus).
When in shrub form, it is known as Olea europaea 'Montra', dwarf olive, or little olive. The shrub does not produce any fruit.
I've always used brass tank connectors in the past but this last job I done to replace a 50 gallon tank, I used plastic push fit ones as the merchant I used never had many of the other as I needed two 28mm and one 15mm. I have to say I was very impressed as the the brass ones I always worry...
Hi what is the best way to do this ? Turn off the mains and drain down the system ? Then undo all the 3 nuts and disconnect the wiring ? Then connect new one up and wiring ? Is the wiring bit hard ? I know the actuator part can be removed on its own ... Then fill back up , test for leaks and...

Hello
Experience: DIY plumbing.
i have installed a couple of cisterns and used 15mm compression to the plastic cistern connection, never had a leak. The ends of the pipes appears to be 'chamfered' if that's the correct term, for an olive, not flat like a tap connection, hence the logic...
Hi
Can anyone advise of what fitting is required to connect the pictured flexi pipe to a 15mm copper pipe? The diameter of the nut end is 28mm.
Thanks in Advance
Hey guys,
has anyone ever come across a rubber olive before? Every valve I've ever fitted up until now has a copper/brass olive compression joint onto 15mm pipe but this new radiator valve that I need to use for the type of radiator I have uses rubber olives to compress onto the 15mm pipe...
The small nut in the white pipe has a crack through it and needs replacing. There's plenty of slack on it so i can cut it but need to know that i can repair it. It goes to the fridge which has a water dispenser.
Any ideas on best course of action?
Thanks
Hi There,
Was wondering if anyone knew which olive is the best one to use - brass or copper? Have been using both for a while now and thought I'd ask some opinions on the matter.
Anyone used or have any thoughts on this? I'm thinking of buying one:

Or I was thinking of the Arctic one which is £50 more expensive but does the same thing in the same way.
Cheers
Is it best to use Boss White/jointing compound, PTFE, or 'nothing at all' , around the olives when installing compression fittings in both ‘potable water’ and ‘non-potable’ water situations ?
Need to ask another question from the experts on here. A year ago, I added an iso. valve to the pipe under a tap. The pipe is old 1/2" and the olives were the copper ones that came with the new valve.
At the time, I remember that I had to tighten the compression nuts quite a bit as there was...
Hi,
I have this thermostatic shower mixer but it doesn't have any branding on it.
Unfortunately it's leaking, a slow drip from the arrow on the left where I presume I would just need to get a new olive in there with some PTFE.
The bigger leak though is from the right hand side (in the...

I have a flexible water connector for a water filter system that connects to a main (stopcock) 3/4 inch male thread .
The male end is correct (1/2 inch), please see attached picture, as this fits the water filter system, but the Female end is also 1/2 inch and is too small. I need the...

Hello
i am a complete novice so sorry what I call things
basically I have a 15mm washing machine tap that I am trying to connect under the sink, the problem I have is that when I insert the 15mm plastic tubing into the tap and tighten the bolt as per the instructions, the tubing still easily...
Is it ok to use a 22mm compression fitting on (20mm)/(3/4'') pipe to connect to modern everyday 22mm copper? It's holding this far, took a bit of torquing!
Is changing radiator valves on micro bore pipe a tricky processes with them being prone to leaking after? I no changing them on 15mm pipe is easy, cutting off the old olive etc. Any tips for changing them on micro bore pipework?
Hi guys, I hope somebody can help me as I'm struggling a bit.
We have moved our kitchen into a different room, and a door is going where the original water main is, so it needs to be rerouted. Spoke to a plumber who said use a 22mm elbow with a 3/4 olive to connect to the old black plastic...
What is the correct way to make a compression joint? There are various views on whether sealing compound should be used or not. I want to replace a defective compression joint water valve which has 3 ports. From past experience, when I dismantle it the original tight fitting olives will remain...

Hi all, just fitted a bs1212 pt2 float valve on an f+e tank. The original was the straight arm (part 1?) I think. I didn't think you could fit the straight ones anymore due to the air gap but noticed the merchants still sell them. Anyone know any different?
