float valve
A ballcock (also balltap or float valve) is a mechanism or machine for filling water tanks, such as those found in flush toilets, while avoiding overflow and (in the event of low water pressure) backflow. The modern ballcock was invented by José Antonio de Alzate y Ramírez, a Mexican priest and scientist, who described the device in 1790 in the Gaceta de Literatura Méxicana. The ballcock device was patented in 1797 for use in steam engines by Edmund Cartwright. It consists of a valve connected to a hollow, sealed float by means of a lever mounted near the top of the tank. The float is often ball-shaped, hence the name ballcock. The valve is connected to the incoming water supply, and is opened and closed by the lever which has the float mounted on the end. When the water level rises, the float rises with it; once it rises to a pre-set level, the mechanism forces the lever to close the valve and shut off the water flow. This is an example of negative feedback and of proportional control.
I have been to a customers house today with an issue with her toilet cistern constantly filling with water non stop. It's not leaking over as it's draining away down the bowl. It's an Italian toilet called an Axa. They don't even have a website. The cistern does not have a ball cock so it's not...

I Have a problem with the toilet running water into the pan.
It is a push button flush, I have been told this could be the Flapper Valve.
Anyone else have any ideas.

My Thermflow unit with integral header tank has the 18mm overflow pipe (about 75mm below rim of tank) running horizontally for about 1200mm before dropping about 1200 mm and continuing with fall to outside.

In concealed cistern. The float valve vibrates a lot (mainly when it begins to refill, less when nearly full.) If you put your fingers on where the piston bit closes the valve you can feel it going like the clappers.
Is there a standard washer and seat set that would fit this or would I need...

Recently attended a customers house after he rang me and explained that after he flushed his toilet the pipework started groaning after about 20 seconds after the toilet filled. I immediatly thought this must be water hammer pertaining to the fill valve shutting off to fast.

I have recently had my bathrooms refurbished. Both toilets were replaced. Apparently they have been connected to the mains supply (previously gravity fed) in order to speed up the filling sequence. However, when the toilet is flushed, at the end of the fill, there is an almighty 'thump' which...

Hello
Does anyone have any bright ideas for making a watertight fixing to a tap (outdoor type) to a wooden butt? A client has asked me to repair her "leaking butt".....
Apparently there's a load of gooey stuff around the joint at the moment and this isn't working.
Cheers

Hi
Quick question how much would you expect to pay for the following:
* installation of a gas fire in a conservatory including wxternal pipework
* 6 new rads with trv's all singles - double entry system
* boiler service condensor
Any offers?
