float valve
A ballcock (also balltap or float valve) is a mechanism or machine for filling water tanks, such as those found in flush toilets, while avoiding overflow and (in the event of low water pressure) backflow. The modern ballcock was invented by José Antonio de Alzate y Ramírez, a Mexican priest and scientist, who described the device in 1790 in the Gaceta de Literatura Méxicana. The ballcock device was patented in 1797 for use in steam engines by Edmund Cartwright. It consists of a valve connected to a hollow, sealed float by means of a lever mounted near the top of the tank. The float is often ball-shaped, hence the name ballcock. The valve is connected to the incoming water supply, and is opened and closed by the lever which has the float mounted on the end. When the water level rises, the float rises with it; once it rises to a pre-set level, the mechanism forces the lever to close the valve and shut off the water flow. This is an example of negative feedback and of proportional control.
does anyone know of a compact toilet fill valve that will operate on realy low pressure 1m head. fluid master works but takes ages to fill tech said designed to work up to 0.2 bar but slow
Hi all, just fitted a bs1212 pt2 float valve on an f+e tank. The original was the straight arm (part 1?) I think. I didn't think you could fit the straight ones anymore due to the air gap but noticed the merchants still sell them. Anyone know any different?
Hi
When I screw the water connection back on to the float valve thread under the cistern, there is a leak when I turn the water back on. There are 3 fibre washers filling the gap.
Does anyone know what I could do to stop the leak?
Thanks you

Hi all - can anyone offer repair advice for leaking toilet float valve? It appears that despite the float arm shutting off the water there's a slow but steady drip into the cistern from the inlet side of the fitting - where the orange arrow points. Is there a washer inside likely to require...
Hi. My first post here, hoping to get some expert advice.
I have a toilet which is constantly filling. The fill valve isn't shutting the water off properly, and I have dismantled it, cleaned it but all to no avail. I decided the best option was to replace it. I bought a new fill valve from...
Just been to look at dripping overflow. Thers's a 1" float valve at fault. Are there washers etc available or is replacement the best option considering the cost.

Just inspected a hot water cylinder with a combined water tank, on inspection i found the water tank to have the float valve (part 1 type) submerged in water. The water is coming out of the overflow and i'm drawn to either of the two conclusions:
1. Ball valve is faulty and needs replacing.
2...
Hi everyone, nice to meet you all.
I am a cistern collector and from time to time I like to test them.
What I want to know is, is it possible to securely connect a normal sink tap to a cistern's float ball valve without it leaking? So I can turn on the tap and have it act as a water feed to...

I need to have self leveling trough for horses and I was planing to use this

Hi I wonder if anyone can help. I have a problem with a trickle of water constantly filling in the toilet bowl. I've looked in the cistern and it seems to be consistently filling/trickling out of what i've located as a Torbeck Bottom Entry Cistern Float Valve. The water level fills up but not...

hi folks i'm new to the forum, i'm not a plumber but joining pipes/tubes together does come into my area of specialization being a welder/fabricator, however rules®s/recomended practice on domestic water systems don't though.

Hi,
I have a problem where my toilet tank slowly continues to fill, say an inch every couple of hours until it hits the overflow tube.
The refill value does not appear to be leaking as if I flush the toilet and then hold the float up with an elastic band, the toilet tank will continue to...

I have been asked to move a radiator on a sealed CH system in a very large county house that has a automatic pressurisation unit fitted for top up.
I have never come across one of these and want to check if it just a case of isolating the unit (there's a 1/4 turn lever valve on the outlet) and...

Hello -
I have a RAK corner toilet and have had it for about 5 years or so. It was OK until about 2 months ago and now it won't stop running!
At first it was just running a little bit but now it's gone mad and it's like Niagara Falls! My husband has looked at it and says that it's not like a...
