flux
Flux describes any effect that appears to pass or travel (whether it actually moves or not) through a surface or substance. Flux is a concept in applied mathematics and vector calculus which has many applications to physics. For transport phenomena, flux is a vector quantity, describing the magnitude and direction of the flow of a substance or property. In vector calculus flux is a scalar quantity, defined as the surface integral of the perpendicular component of a vector field over a surface.
Hello there,
I have just fitted a swirl bar shower for a friend of mine yesterday, and today he noticed in the airing cupboard a slight weep on the yorkshire fitting connected to the cold. Do I try and resolder the 90º yorkshire fitting (not to sure if it will take) or is it best to cut pipe and...

Right lads and ladies?
We've had a guy quit smoking on tilersforums and he made it look easy. He's done 9 days now and has his sense of humour back already (he'll chuckle if he reads that).

Greetings one and all!
Due to the downturn the en-suite is finally getting a re-vamp. As part of this a chrome towel radiator has been plumbed into a combi bloiler closed system. Just adding another towel radiator to the bathroom.
The instructions with the radiator have words to the...

Hi Guys,
I have just finished doing some major mods to an existing system which is mostly copper for the htg and a couple of lengths of Hep20 on the DHW F&R.
I have used mostly normal copper connections, led free solder, fernox flux, and some Tectite (discrete heat).
Need to flush the...

Hi - I know flux does 2 things - helps solder flow and cleans the pipe -
Am i right in saying when you heat a pipe up without any flux on you can sort of see a thin layer on the pipe ie when you move the blow torch up and down. Am i right in guessing this is an oxide layer - would this be...
Hi, just a question on soldering joints, was talking to a bricklayer today, who can plumb, (plumbed all his house, water + centeral heating number of years back).. anyway he said when he used "end feed" he used to "tin" the end of the pipe befour inserting into the fitting then continue to...

HI
I used a very small gas torch to soldering 2 of 22mm copper water pipes on copper tee (22mmX22mmX15mm) successfuly few days ago.
Now I need soldering a copper drain cock on 15mm end of the tee. For some reason I unable finish the job. I think is because the gas torch is too small.
So...

well, here goes more daft q's, is the gas from an open sewer pipe within a bathroom just unpleasant or is it methane and bad for you and ?? possibly combustable ?? also, similar q for fumes off powerflow flux, bad for you of just smelly?? see, been plumbing 12 yrs and ... still learning
Obviously, not all solders and fluxes are all the same,
some must be better than others, and some not quite as good.
so please, would those of you with more experience share with the rest of us their good and bad, solder and flux experiences.
What brands you like to use and what you don't like...

Has anyone tried the OLCI Home-Study courses? OLCI also offer practical training sessions as well, so I would complement the theory with the practical sessions.
I am looking at doing a course and ideally would have gone for one of the 8/10 week courses but due to work constraints, I am unlikely...
