flux
Flux describes any effect that appears to pass or travel (whether it actually moves or not) through a surface or substance. Flux is a concept in applied mathematics and vector calculus which has many applications to physics. For transport phenomena, flux is a vector quantity, describing the magnitude and direction of the flow of a substance or property. In vector calculus flux is a scalar quantity, defined as the surface integral of the perpendicular component of a vector field over a surface.
Hi there. Just curious.....heavy DIY'er....just soldered to vertical coupling close to the floorboards (pipes coming vertically up from the void). Some flux - LA-CO - melted under the torch and ran down the pipe below the floorboards. Should I be worried?...keen to do a good job...and not...
Really wiered question but...........Anyone got any idea how long it would take for flux to corrode through the flexi annaconda pipe on a gas meter (if it even would). I have tried googling but cant seem to find any answers.
Does anyone know of any decent or good flux brushes im sick to death of using crap ones that fall apart after 2 mins of use i must have gone though about 10 in the past week
cheers all
Hi,
Would I be right in saying another reason for using flux other then stopping oxides forming on the copper, or using it as a copper cleaner when soldering. Is for flux to release surface tension, when heated and act as a free flowing liquid that follows heat, and performs a capillary action...
what fluxes are you other plumbers using now then? i allways use powerflow and leadsolder on C/H powerflow and lead free on hot and cold and Laco and leaded on gas
during my first year we were taught never to flux the inside of fittings.. however they also 'taught' me how to solder and i started having leaks when i went onto the circuit... now i Do flux my fittings and the pipe; as i watched my boss and copied him.. is there a divide in this approach???
A full system install in a new build (4 weeks ago) and we are still getting turquoise flux in the tap filters etc....
how long does it take to get rid of this stuff? shouldn't the plumber get rid of this before he installs taps / showers etc.....
when did this change ????????
i used to love fernox when it was the amber coloured greasy stuff. great smell too unlike fry's.
worked a treat and adding a dab of flux immediately after soldering cleaned up the pipe and helped the solder to run before it set.
just opened my new fernox and...
Hi all, just wondering has anybody used Tectite Sprint fittings on central heating? are they any good? also can you use a standard soldered drain off in a tectite fitting, or do you have to get a special one to fit. I've had a look at the Tectite range and they don't show any drainoffs in the...
