Hi all

First of all apologies if I am wrong to post this question on a plumbers forum but the liability part of the question might be answerable.

I had a problem with my washing machine, it stopped during the wash cycle and so would not move onto rinse or spin unless selected separately. I called out a repairman who could not diagnose the problem and and opted to phone someone to order a new circuit board (without consulting me first) to be fitted in the near future. Not a huge issue but since he has left, I have unplugged and replugged in the machine and now it works fine having had no maintenance! So where does this leave liability for the cost the the ordered circuit board given that it wasn't the problem.

Cheers

HI

If he has got them through a recognised suplier they will usually take them back and refund.

tell him you got a second opinion of a family friend and he solved it free of charge with no materials - not the nicest thing to do but neither is his guess work.

if he new the job he would have tried all the simple things and not just guesed at O ITMUST be the board, he ordered a part that was not needed nor did he ask if ok , pay the call out if he has one , job done , tell him the truth!!!!! you unpluged it and then put it back on ! it worked,
just be nice about it,

Even if you had agreed to the part he should have no problem returning it.

To be fair, part of the failed diagnosis was to try some simple things. So it wasn't straight to the phone for the PCB.

At the end of the day, I might not have searched on-line finding the plug/unplug solution if he hadn't turned up and mentioned the price that the next visit would cost! So I guess I wouldn't be averse to a small contribution; he doesn't charge for initial call-out only works that get done.

Cheers

well a (small) gesture of good will goes bouth ways, every ones happy, happy days!!!

So I thought the washing machine (Ariston 1436) was working again but the problems have returned! Here are the symptoms for any experts out there:

1. Wash cycle seems normal but it does sound like someone diving when they are inhaling on a regulator. Short, sharp intakes.

2. Program stops at rinse, wash and rinse lights are on.

3. I can advance the cycle by turning the machine on/off or rocking the machine!

4. The water is getting hot and apparently there in not fault with thermostat or heater. The water can drain.

5. The clothes seem to be getting washed after you have "encouraged" the machine through the program.

Thanks in advance for any expert help.

Cheers

loose wire? which makes it's connection again when the machine is moved.

Re: Washing Machine Repairs - Another symptom

loose wire? which makes it's connection again when the machine is moved.

It seems to be the drum that needs shaking to advance cycle. This does seem to be connected with a white component (pressure switch?) near to the top of the machine (not attached to the drum) that makes a clicking (switching) sound when you move the drum (and when you turn the machine on/off to advance).

Cheers

The washing machine stops at various stages during the cycle and is advanced by turning the machine off and on (no shaking required). It seems to be stopping more now than it used to.

Happy New Year...

Error codes are
light flashing from left to right are numbers 1-4

f01 light 4, motor triac
f02 light 3 motor, jammed/ tacho
f03 lights 3&4 Ntc fault
f04 light 2. pressure sw stuck on empty
f05 lights 2&4, pressure sw stuck on full
f06 lights 2&3, N/A?
f07 lights 2&3&4 heater relay
f08 light 1. heater relay
f09 lights 1&4 eprom/setup error
f10 lights 1&3, pressure switch not sensing
f11 lights 1&3&4, pump/draining error
f12 lights 1&2, communication error
f13 lights 1&2&4, dryer ntc/ fan motor
f14 lights 1&2&3, dryer heater
f15 lights 1&2&3&4, dryer heater relay
f16 N/A
f17 light 4, door lock
f18 light 3 comms error (3 phase motor) power board

f1 and f17 share the same light

There are no fault lights; the lights that indicate the cycle stage just remain on when the washing machine stops. This occurs during rinse and spin stages.

Cheers

read error codes again dont worry bout it flashing just match the lights on

But the lights are not arranged left to right. The only lights on are orientated vertically and if you can imagine taking a photograph of the the machine during its rinse cycle, those lights indicating the rinse cycle will be on. This is also the case for the spin cycle.

get engineer to look at it then

Already done that, he didn't know for sure and went with a timer fault! However, after he left it started working again. Now the situation has returned...I think a new machine would be better option given the this one is 6 years old.
