Is the best way to do this by annealing tube first and cooling with water before insertion of spring and bending?

Coming from a guy who does not wear knee pads.

Come to think of it, that's probably why you don't wear pads a. Not knackered from using springs

Anneal it first. Its usual to fill tube with sand.
Anneal it till it glows a nice red

The pipe these days is harder than it once was so you will probably have to anneal it. I've never bent 1" pipe with a spring for over 30 years. Fk that.

Always used a tripod bending machine up to 1"1/2. Wish I had never sold it on, but came off the tools years ago and would never use it, until now, as I have a bit of 28mm to install. OH 'well second best have to buy the expensive fittings.

Fill it with sand, is this so it doesn't kink or something?

Different bending method. If you have a spring heat the pipe until cherry red and cool it. Stick the spring in and pulll your bend. Spend 10 minutes rubbing the heat marks off the pipe if you can see it.
Save up for a 2nd hand bending machine. Much easier and better bends than a hand bender.

What do you think we did before bending machine, sand load it yes, you would then need oxy acetylene to heat it up sand loaded and bend it on a bench, but like you say spring bend is OK, anneal it well till cherry red, you will need a big torch for 28mm copper and I mean big, about 25mm dia at least, cool it down quickly with water, I hope you are not trying a full 90 bend just offsets, if you want tight offsets keep the annealing to a short length or you will end up with long offsets. The copper will work harden fast on the first pull over your knee, you may need to anneal it again to bend further, make sure the spring is a good fit, if its going to ripple 28mm will certainly ripple. If you try and anneal 28mm with a standard Rothenberg bottle nozzle forget it, also anneal it indoors and wind outside won't cool it and you won't get the tube cherry red and in sunlight you won't know if it's cherry red or not. Sand loading any pipe cooper or steel is not for the untrained. If you fancy shelling out ÂŁ1000 the Rems Curvo bends 28mm like shelling peas

With the additives in copper pipe now bending 22mm is hard work on a manual bender never mind 28mm and springs, assume you must have your reasons.

Managed a massive offset by hand on 28mm before. 3m length in to scaffy tube bend tiny amount then pull out of tube a tiny bit and bend some more...... Works but its rough!

When i was serving my time we had an 1 1/4" spring. You stand on the pipe and pull it.

Well I bought a spring any way so shall give it a go. It is for a gas pipe so the less fittings the better.

Thanks guys. I shall see how it goes. Hilmor benders are expensive. Don't think my wife will let me buy one:-(

The fittings below are for a mixer bar attached to a self contained shower. i.e not a wall. The attaching screws have snapped. I could get two new brackets, dismantle that existing one and start again or I could try and re attach via those screws, removing the broken ones from the plate and wall...

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...
