stop cock

A stopcock is a form of valve used to control the flow of a liquid or gas. The term is not precise and is applied to many different types of valve. The only consistent attribute is that the valve is designed to completely stop the flow when closed fully.

How to replace outside stopcock in a rusty steel pipe

What’s the correct way to replace a (jammed and leaking) stop-cock in an old and corroded ½ steel pipe without damaging the pipe? The pipe in question is a main water supply pipe for a house and dates from (I guess) the 1970s. It’s from a shared supply for myself and the neighbouring half dozen...

    stopcock found after 30 years!

My mum has just had a new boiler fitted and we found the stopcock sticking out the plaster behind the old boiler. I have been looking for it for ages so it was quite nice to finally find it. Do you think it is safe to try and turn it after putting some wd40 on it and leaving it for a while?
