novice
A novice is a person who has entered a religious order and is under probation, before taking vows. A novice can also refer to a person (or animal e.g. racehorse) who is entering a profession with no prior experience.
Today i replaced the cistern flapper diaphram. Never done anything like this before but im fairly practicaly minded. I fitted a new o-ring kit as the toilet is a closed couple type and the original o-ring was decayed. Everything works fine now and flushes with one press of the handle;)

Hi,
This is my first piece of plumbing work, so treat me as if I know nothing (which isn't far off!)
I want to connect a toilet to the inlet pipe (15mm copper). I have read that a flexible connector is best, but these all look too long. I have no more than a few inches from the top of the...

I am a novice DIYer and so I'll try and explain myself as best as I can.
My wife and I have recently moved into a new house. Under the sink where the cold water pipe t's off to the washing machine, rather than having the normal valve/connector, there was a tap - like an outside tap. This was...

Last year I had a load of grief with the vaillant turbomax 242 i've got.
I took the dhw heat exchanger off and cleaned it out with vinegar to remove limescale and changed the prv.
The prv is leaking again so pressure drops when the heating has been on again and I have to keep topping it up (I...

I'm about to complete a City & Guilds Level II in plumbing with a view of then going on to do unvented systems, gas and solar heating.
The idea is...

Hi guys
Hope someone can help a novice out! I just want to remove a rad so that I can have the wall behind re-skimmed. The LSV looks rather old and I have not seen one like it before. I've attached a couple of pics. One shows the valve with the cover on and the other off. To get the cover...

Was just unblocking (trying to) a drain when the bloody rod snapped inside.
There is a rubber plunger on the end and at least one length of plastic rod is stuck, I'm guessing somewhere about a 1m-1.5m from the point I started rodding.
I already tied a binliner round my arm and had a fumble...

Especially for the lads (and ladettes) who work for themselves, what do you see as the main barriers to getting into renewables instead of (or more realistically) along side gas/oil?
I'm interested in what would make it easier, what hurdles you have encountered, training and accreditation...
