overflow

In computer programming, an integer overflow occurs when an arithmetic operation attempts to create a numeric value that is outside of the range that can be represented with a given number of digits – either higher than the maximum or lower than the minimum representable value.
The most common result of an overflow is that the least significant representable digits of the result are stored; the result is said to wrap around the maximum (i.e. modulo a power of the radix, usually two in modern computers, but sometimes ten or another radix).
An overflow condition may give results leading to unintended behavior. In particular, if the possibility has not been anticipated, overflow can compromise a program's reliability and security.
For some applications, such as timers and clocks, wrapping on overflow can be desirable. The C11 standard states that for unsigned integers modulo wrapping is the defined behavior and the term overflow never applies: "a computation involving unsigned operands can never overflow."On some processors like graphics processing units (GPUs) and digital signal processors (DSPs) which support saturation arithmetic, overflowed results would be "clamped", i.e. set to the minimum or the maximum value in the representable range, rather than wrapped around.

Dropped water level and left it for a few hours. Went back and level is back up and overflowing again. As...

    Leaking outside overflow pipe

Hi, A few weeks ago I got a plumber out to look at my Baxi combi boiler which kept losing water pressure a few times a day and affected the central heating, I`d noticed the outside relief overflow pipe had water leaking out due to the pressure shooting up each time I repressurised the boiler...

    blocked CWSC overflow?

Hi all, I've heard it is quite common for over flow pipes on CWSCs to block. Is this true? In which case, how and why do they get blocked? And how would you test it (ie, hold the ball valve down and force the water to overflow)? Do you routinely test the overflows when fitting a new FOV...

Sink overflow with washing machine/horizontal run/AAV

My sink is draining slowly. My washing machine is pumping water up into the sink and overflowing it. I believe this is caused by drain blockage. I'm pretty sure this is caused by drain blockage. The waste pipe comes down from the sink, through a t-piece between the sink and trap (where...

    Thermal Store Dripping Overflow

Hi, We installed a combination, open vented thermal store last year. As the header tank sits on top of the main cylinder the water in the header is really quite hot. I have noticed very slight drips coming from the overflow (more on a cool day) which I think is down to condensation. It’s not...

Replacing Sink waste and overflow - how to bridge 1" gap

I need to replace my sink waste and overflow. I think I have found the necessary part (Mcalpine FSW2PR-70) as it has a rectangle overflow connection instead of circle. However, the old waste had a waste adaptor that screwed into the old waste above and a connecting pipe (1 1/2") below. I...

Making an internal overflow on a cheapie syphon.

Hi all. I don't know if this will help anyone but it helped me the other day. Had a new WC supplied with a syphon valve without an internal overflow. Never had that happen before so I guess it's not a common problem. Not keeping overflow pipe and fittings on the van I made a simple...
