Alright guys, going to get a kit or take advice otherwise

Basic use everyday, what would be best one to get, baring in mind I have never used one but think if I had I would use more,

What do you lot think!!??
 
We use freeze masters. But new, you'll get the updated hoses which don't leak the refrigerant so bad :)
 
my old one is still working ok at £400 of flea bay and a local refrigeration techie can top it up if need be, cheaper than a brand spanking new one to start you off
 
I also got my freeze master off eBay second hand

i have the larger version, its been spot on.
 
We have a couple of Rofrost Turbo's, bloody good bits of kit. Might have one up for sale soon.
 
Jetfreeze kit & Pub CO2 cylinders inverted. That's the cheapest & best way to do it in my view.
 
The problem with electric machines is they all need re-gassed from time to time & you need dual voltage & PAT tested for site work. With CO2 being inert, there's never any H&S issues..................:wink_smile:
 
OMG was I confused? Saw the thread heading 'Pipe Freezing'; saw that OP was located in Glasgow. Shocked that even in Glasgow could it be so cold in June that pipes would freeze. Then I read the thread.........................................................!

I've had my machine for nearly fifteen years and it's never needed re-gassing. Prior to the electric one I had the jetfreezer kit. Worked great but expensive to run and you have to sit with it injecting the CO2 unlike the electric one which I can connect up and get on with other stuff whilst it is freezing.
 
While CO2 is in a pressurised cylinder, it's still an inert gas & freezes very quickly, unlike the Leccy ones they take for ever to freeze large bore pipes!!

No they don't, the ones from 39 years ago might have.
 
My votes for the electric freezemaster as well - bought mine second hand a few years ago, have had to re-gas it twice.
Still impressed with it.

How much for re-gas and where blod ? Have one and local air con man says bout 200 :(
 
no problems with mine, had it 3 years and 2nd hand, frozen central heating pipes in a hotel, 35mm no issues, best of all just leave it on and youj know its going to stay frozen till you turn it off. No bottles flying all over the van either and CO2 in an enclosed space just isnt good for you.

LOL We freeze pipes with it mate, not inhaling it.
I guess it's down to what you're used to using.
 
Modernise aye right!! Nothing modern about chancers trying to do a tradesman's job fella. But let's just stick to the freeze machines, we may get these washer changers confused.

Why are people chancers?, you think other plumbers are opportunists because they don't agree with using CO2 for health reasons or otherwise?

I don't use my asbestos heat mat and wear trousers with built in knee pads, i suppose you think i am "soft behind the ears fella" because i am taking such precautionary steps, heard this nonsensical mantra before.
 
Can we please not get H&S mixed up with poorly trained course cowboys or pipe freezing equipment. We've now got three subjects on this thread!! I just raised the point about poorly trained chancers when some washer changer had a pop at me regarding my experience. In my view Leccy freezing machines are rubbish, but each to their own.

I was always a CO2 man, until I tried one of the newer electric models. I bought a 2nd hand one of of fleabay, had it regassed, just for good measure, and I am very pleased with it. Freezed a 2 inch main yesterday with it, no problems.

Thanks for that Dickie. I don't want to quash anyone's sense of humour..... Well, there are a couple......

It's just that the printed word can be read entirely differently to how it's meant. I'd suggest using the emoticons in future with comments that could be read either way.

Knowing the Fridge gas that's used will help a lot when getting a leccy machine topped up. Some Fridgies will do a full evacuation & vacume test for leaks before they add new Gas. I've been trying for ages to do my F Gas & never had the time, but one day I'll do it. I've been fann.ing around with heatpumps for years, so have a little knowledge of refrigeration.
 
The re-gas is not the issue, but finding the leak is. A decent fridge guy (not air con guy type installer) should sort most machines for 60 - 70 quid. I have repaired loads and its mainly worn hoses and mechanical fittings that leak. the compressor and associated refrigerating parts will last for years considering the little work they co
