ventilation
Passive ventilation is the process of supplying air to and removing air from an indoor space without using mechanical systems. It refers to the flow of external air to an indoor space as a result of pressure differences arising from natural forces.
There are two types of natural ventilation occurring in buildings: wind driven ventilation and buoyancy-driven ventilation. Wind driven ventilation arises from the different pressures created by wind around a building or structure, and openings being formed on the perimeter which then permit flow through the building. Buoyancy-driven ventilation occurs as a result of the directional buoyancy force that results from temperature differences between the interior and exterior.Since the internal heat gains which create temperature differences between the interior and exterior are created by natural processes, including the heat from people, and wind effects are variable, naturally ventilated buildings are sometimes called "breathing buildings".
Hi all,
Looking for advice on the ventillation of the Bosch Greenstar i System Boilers. I've had one fitted into a new home I've purchased and the developer missed a course of bricks out so the ceiling is too low to install a vent to the outside. The boiler is in a small room (2m x 1x1.8m x...

Hey all just wanted to get your thoughts, ive always been under the impression that a fire under 7kw doesn't need ventilation, after talking to a colleague who needed some advise on a fire another colleague over heard and said that all fuel effect fires need 100cm2.
In my viper book there is a...
Air vents used to go outside on the side of the house but customer has effectively turned it into a shed although it's not air tight what are your opinions? I think a new vent should be put in, as where they are located now they are likely to become blocked easily and it's not technically...
Hi my name is Wayne and I am fully qualified up to level 2 in heating.and ventilation! I am looking for.an apprenticeship to gain level 3. I live in Flintshire, North Wales. If anyone can help me in would be extremely grateful.
Thanks in advance.
I have a problem with noise travelling through the extraction system in a house, going from one room and travelling along the pipework into another room. Not ideal as you can hear people on the other room including in the bathroom too! Is there any way I can insulate against this at all?

Got a couple of situations just wondering if any commercial guys could give me some advice on classifications.

Everything ok, burner pressure, gas rate, flue flow, no spillage with all...
Hi there,
Im about to take my ACS and need something clearing up. I was taught that if you have 2 or more appliances of the same category in a room (e.g. Open flued boiler & a radiant gas fire) then adventitious air is not taken into account. However, reading other books and online literature...
Hi there,
I have an ILFE gas fire. It is under 7kw. It's old, possibly 25years.
There is no additional ventilation and there is nothing about ventilation in the MI's. Do ILFE's follow the same ventilation rules as DFE's?
Thanks in advance :-)

Please can anyone give me some advice on BS5871 Part 1?
I have a 5.5kw gas fire installed approx 18 months ago in a 100 year old, property....do I need to have a vent/air brick to be compliant?
Here’s a question:
Gas pipework located within unventilated duct or voids is AR. How come having a gas pipe between timber joists in floors is not an issue?
:confused5:
Hey guys, I'm sure this comes up a lot but I was hoping someone could help me out.
I recently bought a new house with a Baxi Bermuda 401 back boiler in the lounge and an old gas fire over the front of it. I was surprised to find that the ventilation was located in the kitchen with no vents...
