I have a problem with noise travelling through the extraction system in a house, going from one room and travelling along the pipework into another room. Not ideal as you can hear people on the other room including in the bathroom too! Is there any way I can insulate against this at all?

Yes, You need an ventialltion specialist that has at least got the BPEC qulaifications. We know the causes and the cures, though they aren't nescessarily simple cures, as it's often either a badly designed or badly installed system that is the root cause.

Question - what type of ventilation system have you got?
Is this a new or old problem?
How long ago was the work done to install the ventilation system?

The possible solutions are:

silencers; either reactive or purely dissipative,
dampers; constrained layer or unconstrained layer damping
or lining the inside of the ductwork with a suitable sound-absorbing material (be careful of condensation and cleaning requirements)

However ALL of the above will significantly impact the efficiency of the ventilation system, additionally after any of the above have been carried out, the system whatever it is will need re-comissioning with flow checking equipment; hence my comments above.

Manifold system is best IMHO

So long as properly installed :) - And not all properties can cope with them it depends upon pressure losses and flow rates vs fan powerand hence fan noise and running costs.

They are our first choice if we can...

Really need OP to respond to my earlier request for more info.

Your right more suited to new builds and great for the Eco timber framed houses and slabs
But the spiral with attenuators you need space
