slotted
A slotted spoon is a spoon implement used in food preparation. The term can be used to describe any spoon with slots, holes or other openings in the bowl of the spoon which let liquid pass through while preserving the larger solids on top. It is similar in function to a sieve; however, a ladle-sized slotted spoon is most typically used to retrieve items from a cooking liquid while preserving the liquid in the pot, while table-sized slotted spoons are often used to serve foods prepared or packaged in juices, such as canned fruit and vegetables.
One peculiar example of a slotted spoon is used in the traditional absinthe preparation ritual. A special absinthe spoon with a disproportionately weighted, often ornately decorated, and mostly flat bowl is balanced upon the rim of a glass, on which is placed a sugar cube and through which ice water is poured or dripped into the drink. The slots in the spoon ensure that only fully dissolved sugar reaches the beverage, and the slow trickle of water accentuates the appearance of the louche.
Hi,
I am in NSW, AU, trying to replace the washers in some shower taps but have not been able to find a tool to undo the nuts holding the handles on. I can perhaps brute force it but this is a rented property so don't really want to do that!
The nuts are octagonal! They have a slot in them but...
Can anyone advise me please? How do I connect a garden hose to a bathroom mixer tap with a rectangular slotted spout? I’d like to shower my dogs with warm water after they’ve got muddy. :)
Me (and the dogs) will appreciate any suggestions

ive fitted a new Basin, bought and fitted the waste. It’s a slotted waste as it has an overflow. I’m unable stop it leaking and I think it’s coming from the slot, what stops water coming out of the slot?
Do people prefer the push button adjustable grips or the slotted type ones? Bought some knipex alligators and am struggling to get used to the push button type
There seems to be a lot online about how unreliable these sprung loaded mechanisms are.
I've one of these and it's refusing to click down. I'm not a plumber but I've got it out in the hope of repairing it. The screw just seems to hold in the moving part and tightening it doesn't seem to make...
Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and need some advice. I am not a plumber by any stretch of the imagination, but I try my best at DIY.
I have purchased a cloakroom sink from ebay, which was the only reasonably priced one I could find to suite and fit my cloakroom toilet. The issue is all of the...

Hi, would appreciate some advice.

I removed the tap body and took it to the plumbing shop as I didnt have right size rubber washer. The guy fitted a new washer for me.
I put the whole thing together again and it was fine...

Plenty of slotted square sprung basin wastes online without external overflow arrangements you get with vanity basin wastes. All available vanity basin wastes seem to just have plugs and chains.
I've a feeling I'll just get vacant faces in the merchants. They must exist because I've got a...
Anyone know where I can get hold of a longer 1 1/4" slotted basin waste? Best I can get is 90mm but I really 120mm or so, ideally with click-clack or swivel plug but old-fashioned chain plug would do. It's for a bowl-type basin that sits on top of the vanity, and the waste needs to reach down...
Hi Guys,
Due to the great and educational replies I received to my last post (maiden post) I thought I'd ask for some advice. Recently I was asked to replace a mates waste/plug in his small hand basin. The plastic waste had been moved somehow and the washer and silicone had broken, thus...
1. Potential job. Cracked shower tray. 3 of 4 sides of shower have tiled walls on top of them. The fourth side has the screen door on top. You with me? So potentially quite jammed "in there." How much of a mission would it be to replace this? I imagine if I broke / cut the tray up in situ and...
Hello All,
I am renovating my bathroom and apart from every other thing that made life difficult I have a leaking back nut on the basin waste. It is a slotted type but the problem seems to be the lock/backing nut doesnt have thread all the way round. It has a 5mm groove at each side with the...

I've just installed one of those trendy Italian basins that sits on top of a vanity unit (wife's choice), together with an Aqualisa monobloc mixer tap. The tap came with a slotted basin waste, which had a softish white top seal for above the basin, and a harder white seal for under the basin (so...
