guage
A rain gauge (also known as an udometer, pluvia metior, pluviometer, ombrometer, and hyetometer) is an instrument used by meteorologists and hydrologists to gather and measure the amount of liquid precipitation over an area in a predefined area, over a period of time. It is used for determining the depth of precipitation (usually in mm) that occurs over a unit area and thus measuring rainfall amount.
Just a quickie ... is it quite common?
(I'm having difficulty with a boiler that keeps cutting out after around a minute - I'm thinking it's fuel starvation with a part frozen oil line.)

With this cold snap and the cold winter forecast, I recommend that instruments such as FGA, multimeters and other test instruments are taken inside during the night and if possible put them in the front of your vehicle between jobs.

But there are no visible knobs, switches etc...
