Hi All

Recently I have been to three seperate service/breakdown jobs. British Gas and 1 self employed guy have been there prior to me, and have told customers that they would not service because the boilers are discontinued and parts are not available. The boilers were Worcester Highflows 400 rsf. I have looked for parts and have repaired. The only thing i couldnt get was a seal for the burner cover, so i tested and its fine.

Is it now a case of they are trying to get a new boiler to fit, or is the case that if a boiler is discontinued you dont service/repair???

I am seeing a lot of this, and wondering if it is sales talk.

Thanks.

more like sales to me,you cant service a boiler without mi,or data tag on boiler, you need info for gas pressures.
i keep old boilers that i take out ,for spares

its trying to frighten people into renewal,bg have told people they cant get spares for baxi bermuda 552 bbus what a blatant lie

Servicing obsolete or boiler without MI, requires experience & common sense.
Carryout mandatory checks, flueing, ventilation, safety, visual, gas pressure & gas rate.
If you can't see a data badge contact manufactures or an engineer with more experience.
If you've gas rated it, wp & checked the flame picture check it with a fga.
As long as everything seems right leave it working, point it out to the client & emphasize that it needs regular servicing & point out the possible problem with getting spare parts.
If in doubt At Risk the appliance.
BG & others use the parts lists provided by the manufactures regarding reduced & obsolete appliances. As we know we can often get these parts through specialist spares suppliers

Long shot I know but have you got a front panel for a Baxi Bermuda Inset boiler 50/3. G.C. No 44-077-59 part 235005BAX? British gas have fitted a new heat exchanger but then decided that the insulation panel was damaged and the panel corroded. My mother's been insured with British Gas since they installed the boiler and fire 15 years ago. I have sourced new insulation but the panel is obsolete.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks, Robsmiff

there is no difference servicing an obsolete boiler as opposed to a boiler with parts available, (until something breaks!!) but servicing something without MI is totally different, especially if open flued, thinking about spillage test point

Agree,Kirkgas, The spillage test is part of the mandatory flue test as GSRI know, but if one is not sure of spillage test point they should ask an experienced engineer or manufactures. If not act responseably.
