I

ianjohn

Bit of a problem. fitted a new immersion tank and after a bit of a struggle and one or two drips ( sorted now ), I am not getting any hot water, flow pipe on the coil hot but return cold, im thinking an air lock but there is no vent, how best to get rid of airlock. Advice greatly appreciated

is there anything I can do without fitting anything, cause ive had a gutful of it and I don't really want to drain down anything

ok i'll try that thanks. of course this is just my guess about air lock, does this seem the most likely problem

also I read something about putting your hand over a tap spout and then turning on hot tap then cold tap. bit confused about this and how it works

Are you not getting hot water to your rads or to your hot/cold water taps?

Are you sure there is no vent? Any thing that looks like this?

Have you plumbed it in correctly ? Did you indentify each connection before you started ?

not getting hot water to my taps.Rads hot. definitely no vent anywhere.

ok but on his vid no water is coming out of the hot tap to start with, whereas im getting water but its cold.

Then you need to vent the system, post #4, fitting a vent would make life easier in the future

theres a zone valve on the coil return pipe. when I refilled should that have been put in a certain position, and has it caused an air lock in the coil, if so how could I bleed coil without fitting air vent. or is it poss that if zone valve not working properly it would stop me getting hot water. Thanks

Hi ianjohn welcome to UKPF i have read your problem.

1. So everything worked fine style before you set out on your mission ?
2. You need to tell us all just what preparations you made - what valves
did you close off.
3. I cannot see that you could have connected a cylinder wrongly - its obvious

do us all a diagram of the system as you see it and post it plse. esp which valves
you closed to do your cylinder replacement - the immersion is only a part fitted
to a cylinder to electrically heat the water.

As it is Friday there will be loads of experienced fellas to help you

pumped heating and gravity hot water (semi gravity)

What cylinder have you fitted? A modern part L compliant cylinder is not compliant with a gravity hot water, the coil is too restrictive. You need to specify a cylinder suitable for gravity hot water.

You've bought the wrong cylinder. An expensive mistake a professional wouldn't have made. Unlucky.

Doh. Need to convert your hot water to fully pumped system now or buy a new cylinder!

thought fitting cylinders was notifiable work, where does the diyer stand on this
