Magnaclean leaking and Cylinder connectors cross threaded so won't tighten - HELP!!

Hi there,

Recently moved and noticed the pressure gauge was very low on the boiler so I filled to recommended 1-1.5 bar. Only now to see drips of water coming from the Magnaclean.

Turned water off n bled bathroom radiator until drip stopped then unscrewed the unit. Both washers we damaged so replaced those (couldn't get rubber one's anywhere same size but advised silicone one's will do same job so used these making sure same thickness).

When putting it all back together noticed the black plastic connectors were very cross threaded, i put that white tape on has seen online but tried n tried to get it to tighten enough but it just keeps slipping hence still dripping quite bad now.

Is there any other way i.e by using a small piece of some other pipe and maybe even with a grip to get the unit connected securely please? (i've tried re-threading options but it's totally ruined)

If not can i bin the Magnaclean and rejoin the pipes myself?

Replacing it & call outs etc out of the question at the minute due to cash.

you could bin it and join the pipes but most plumbers fit them every time to prolong and protect the boiler. Worth it in my opinion so I wouldn't take this option

thanks Tom n yes i probably will replace in time just need a quick fix now cause can't afford another or for my house to flood and cause other problems

Defo keep it if poss as it prolongs the life span of boiler but ive never cross threaded one but ive read on forums of guys doing quite often , i have on occassiion found them tricky but if you take your time it should be ok, id purchase a new one or even bid on used one on ebay if money is tight, doesnt matter if used as magnet wont die, just take your time when puting on,,,,,, good luck

Thanks Kris unfortunately i need it sorting like yesterday so will after try removing or clasps etc temporary cause it is totally ruined and no being careful will help sorry

Or you could try getting 2 22mm female iron to coppers and threading them onto the magnaclean to get over the cross threading

buy 2 elbows, male to female 3/4 inch to 22mm and piece of 22mm pipe
Male Elbow 22mm x ¾" | Compression Elbows | NoLinkingToThis. elbows go onto valves and pipe between elbows, should work. yo can then try to recover damaged thread on magnaclean and fit it back.

are the thread on magnacleans standard pipe threads i seem to reall them being fine threads like some three way valves

Contact adey and they may send you a replacement out. It's happened to me before.

It can easily be bridged out you will need 2no 3/4 male iron elbow to 22mm compression fittings a small bit of 22mm tube and about 1 hour .

Thread the iron elbows into the silver nuts. Align them. Measure and cut a bit of 22mm to fit between elbows

Slacken off the silver nuts assemble and tighten up. You may need a few wraps of PTFE on the threads of the iron elbows.

The valves and threads on most early Magnaclean products had massive
technical problems thats why they were de-listed by British Gas for a
while in their early days.

It maybe you have have one of these - in which case I am sure

'Adey Magnaclean' a now large company might well help you out
they are acutely aware of the problems associated with their early
products.

Adey - it is now a great product devised by a straight fwds ordinary plumber
