Just completed a new en-suite at home a few weeks ago. tiled all round the base of the shower tray and made a nice job of it too. tonight ive just seen a water mark in the lounge just below, aaarrrhhhhhh
Im pretty sure its from the waste connection, i didnt use silicome as i normally do and i think its dripping, i could kick myself!!
ive drilled a few small pilot holes in the ceiling and tried to silicone around the waste as it is in, there was a lip after putting the thing together,. why didnt i do it in the first place to make sure??? i must be loosing it!

i hope my make shift silicone does the job, if not ill have to cut the ceiling out, easier than ripping up shower tray, tiling, liquid nailed to a self made plinth which stopped me seeing the waste in action anyway

i am stupid

think it was tackleburger who was slating me for siliconing my wastes and washers - wastes these days are so poor- hard luck fuzz - least it was your own house though pal

thinkin of replaceing it with a bucket, when its full your clean and you can pour it down the toilet, that doesnt leak....not yet anyway

Not thinking straight eh! perhaps to much celebrating 1000th posts:Dregards turnpin

Have you thought of phoning a local chappie/plumber? You never know what advice you might find on here ...!!!!

:p - Big tongue in even bigger cheek remark!!!!!!

I sympathise as I expect you were especially careful with the tiling and everything else and took extra time to do the job properly.

Hope you sort it easily and quickly.

you dont need to sympathise, im the first to take the urine!!!!!!!!!!
drilled some inspection holes from beneath, defo leaking! will cut out ceiling next opportunity, my lifes juts so busy with work an kids i could have done without, prob summat stupid analll l!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't be to hasty, water features are quite popular. And the misses might sign up to it? As they keep the dust down.

well said, i may run a gutter from the lounge to outside catching the water, saves cutting into the ceiling!

If you use end caps and well placed clips you could create a teeter totter effect.

Relaxing and hours of amusement for the family!

Err!

Don't think your on your own fuzzy. I once stripped a whole BBU and fire front down, cleaned and washed out all the burners and loads of other things, looking for why it would not work.

Turned out some nutter called Bernie had not checked whether it was turned on by the socket, which of course it wasn't. Just one flick and on it went.

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

That's funny because a couple of weeks ago mother in law's dishwasher was empty had a pool of dirty water in the bottom. (Mother in law unfortunately has dimentia). Helpful dontknowitall waited till she was gone then he emptied the kitchen cupboard, undid the waste pipes, cleaned out ... they were nearly spotless.

Cleaned up, put everything back then turned the dishwasher on to a new programme. Emptied itself. Seems like my dear mother in law had just opened the door and either not waited for it to wash or stopped it halfway through the wash and shoved everything away in cupboards.

Another half hour wasted when all I need to do was try a new programme.

totaly agree with you q the wastes are flimsly and rubbish sometimes i use plumbers mate, not sure if thats good or bad but seems to do the job
bob
ps
do you anything in the chester area q

im thinking of just sealing the lounge ceiling with silicone, it can then leak as much as it likes!!
i got a feeling its out the bottom of the trap

driklled the ceiling, yep its the waste connection!!!split it filled it with 3 tubes of silicone and after 3 hours the siolicone is still soft??/think the water has backed up and got in, will give it a few hours and give it another try

If it's a trap which is screwed in from above the tray then you can unscrew the top of the waste run silicon around the top of the washer and screw back in hoping that the trap doesn't fall when you remove top part.

Thats the very one, done just that but had to drill a small hole from below to reach in and hold up the trap to enable me to screw it back in. well the wife held it up obviously, if it dont work this time im not using her on another job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

did it yesterday, not got the courage to try it yet, dont weant the disapointment

well ive had a shower and no drips yet fingers crossed. the wife is a bit miffed at the 2 large drilled holes in the ceiling, i think it makes quite a nice feature

How about some recessed lights??

Sillicone might not have stuck if the area was already wet. if this is the case try using something like everbuild stix all as this can be used in wet areas as well. I can't see what's wrong with using sillincone for sealing wastes i personally don't like using plumbers mate or similar because over time this can go hard and brittle and then fail. on the other if you boxed the area in where it was leaking and add another showertray you could have an ensuite in your living room just think how much value that would add to your house

I had an arsey customer who brought another plumber in who apparently told him I was a cowboy for using silicone on my wastes! Yeah...I will just rely on the cheap washers supplied with your cheap fittings and wait for you call with regards to the leak (can you sense the sarcasm). He wouldnt tell me who the other plumber was by the way...
