Discuss Getting a new gas supply in the Plumbing Jobs | The Job-board area at PlumbersForums.net

Hello,

Just wondering what is the best (cheapest) way to go about getting a new gas supply installed.

The property is a first floor flat which is a converted Victorian house.

I own the whole building freehold but someone else owns the downstairs flat leasehold.

They have a gas supply to the flat and a meter box on the wall outside.

I would be looking at siting my meter box about 5 metres away from the existing.

I see a few different companies who offer this service when I do a Google search- any advice?? I am in Lancashire.

I assume that I fit the meter box myself and then the gas company runs the pipe and installs the meter. That is what I have done with electrical companies before.
Obviously I am not doing anything until I have had a company come and look it's just advice on who is best to call.

Many thanks.

Andy

I have no experience with supply lines to the meters so not sure what can and cant be done on those pipes. But in general a supply line will need to be added for your meter, not sure if they can T off your neighbours (cheaper that a new run but would need permission from neighbour to shut their gas of for the period of work) or they have to run a new supply line. I would recommend you get some quotes from some companies. Think i saw that BGas has reasonable quotes. New gas & electricity connections and meter installations – British Gas

That's useful to know, thanks!

You can’t tee of an existing service .

You could speak to several energy providers it will be pretty expensive they will do the digging and provide the meter box. Once the service has been installed the energy company will install the meter.

I’ve have experience with installing new services to domestic properties.

If you’re interested I could get it all dealt with at a reasonable cost.
