Have been reading recently about how we are all going to have to work longer, probably into our seventies before we get a public pension

All's good and well,B&Q here I come, probably be dead by then anyway :(

But it raises the point ,should you be allowed to work on gas at that age, should there be a age limit on certain jobs,as we become more forgetful, ect ,can not see it being to good for gas safety

Possibly an aptitude test or annual gas safe inspections from a certain age?

Cant really put an age on forgetfulness?

totally disagree tony,
take my uncle, 76 builder plumber all his life, still working and never took any gas exams in his life but still able to service gas fires cookers and boilers in his 14 rented properties.....cough.!

76,servicing gas appliances with no exams,at least they probably can not give him a long prison sentence :p;)

Its just that everyone just seenms to put a brave face on it about ,how valuable experience is ect and no one mentions the down site,I can see more accidents/incidences happening

The average age of death for somone in the building trade is 6 yrs after retirement. when I get to retirment I dont want to be bothering with re registering etc, the odd tap washer/ballvalve per week should do me.

im 56 got 3 years left on ticket think ive done 8 boilers this year so doubt if ill renew again b and q seems very inviting
plus does anyone realy want old fitters who could think for them selves gone are the days of making a controll system for boilers out of a range of parts most engineers wont put in a new screw if its not bubble wrapped with the manufactueres name on and soon plumbing will be regulated in the same way
