jointing compound
Joint compound (also known as drywall compound or Mastic) is a white powder of primarily gypsum dust mixed with water to form a mud the consistency of cake frosting, which is used with paper or fiber joint tape to seal joints between sheets of drywall to create a seamless base for paint on interior walls. It is often referred to simply as mud or as joint cement.
Ive fitted a new bottom entry fill valve to our en-suite toilet but i cant stop the dribble/leak from the inlet connection. Ive added a fair bit of ptfe but its still leaking, tightened it to its maximum etc and still im getting a dribble. Do you think i need more ptfe, add some joint compound...
i notice on Pegler’s website that they don’t recommend jointing compound on their compression / Prestex fittings and i wonder what people’s real-world experiences are with them, if not using compound? is it the case that higher-quality fittings genuinely don’t require any compound? TIA
I'm a fan of jet lube (or the much hated - boss green) on all copper pipe to brass compression fittings. However, should jointing compound be used around a copper olive on plastic (i.e. speedfit) to brass compression fittings (e.g. plastic running into concealed shower valves, wall elbows, etc)...
Evening peeps,
Which compound would you go for ? Boss white ? Plumb centres jet blue or fernox ? Whats the difference between blue fernox tin and yellow ?
Cheers
Would you recommend using jointing compound on newly installed compression fittings? Some say use it always while some say it affects integrity of joint.
What's everyone's thought on what is the best water/gas jointing compound. Jet blue has been recommended to me after being forced to use fernox for years at old work, which I thought was rubbish.
Hi, planning to replace bath taps. I am looking to also replace the fibre washers in the old tap connectors however is it best practice to use some jointing compound? I understand jet blue is used on compression fittings but wondered if anything else is considered?
many thanks
I've just bought a shower pump and it states - Do not use jointing compound or tape. Not only that I can't use flux on solder joints! What's left? Anyone know?
Quick question for everyone, what is your favourite compund for compression fittings/screwed fittings etc
The only reason I ask is that Rocol has gone upto £16 in my local merchants , so wondered if anyone had any recommendations for other pastes/compounds?

Yeah basic question - am a newbie / diy-er...
I have PTFE tape and jointing compound (BOSS Super green pipe jointing compound with PTFE).
I have some radiators to fit up in my house and a pressure reducing valve to fit.
I was looking at the PRV (Caleffi 533841 with a pressure reading...
Hi, I'm a novice when it comes to plumbing. I've used compression fittings in the past, and have applied jointing compound.
With push-fit copper fittings, do you still need to use jointing compound?
Ok so between the water tanks (hot and cold) and the pump itself there are quite a few compression fittings including a new cold water connector and the surrey flange. first of all i should say that non of this is fitted yet and the pump is a CT50
the fitting instructions say that no jointing...

Hi guys, i would really like some advice. Do you guys use PTFE tape to make your brass connections to a cylinder? Or is there a jointing compound that can be used?
I filled up a horizontal cylinder today just before finishing off for the day and then get a weep on the cold feed. So had to drain...
