Does this expansion vessel need supporting?

Just noticed this on a job and wondered how dangerous it is if any of you knowledgeable people can tell me if it's supposed to be supported?

As it’s a small one I would say it’s ok

But wouldn’t harm if you added thr bracket

If it were me I would support it. Its ok when it's all good but as soon as the diaphragm goes and it's full of water it's a lot of weight on the pipe work.

What do the Manufacturer's Instructions say? While you're reading them, check it's okay to fit it that way up.

I think it should be OK, when it fills with water the weight will cause the 22mm to bend but the bottom of the vessel should hit the 54mm header below & not snap it.
or just wrap a bit of wire around the steel above then round the 22mm bend to the vessel job done

Not the worst job really.
22mm copper will hold a lot.
But I would have wanted it clipped just above the expansion vessel at least

In a perfect world it'd be supported but it's fine.
Even totally shot & full of water it's only 12 kilos and that would never bend that 22mm.

You can easily get a band attached to that unistrut. Always bracket it, but i wouldn't lose sleep over this one.

What’s it likely to fall on? Assuming it’s 5m high and weighs 5kg if it hit someone on the head you’d expect a serious injury if not a fatality.

If it’s 1m high in an unfrequented area it’s not such an issue.

Always fit equipment as per the manual and then your arse is covered.

As a professional you have an obligation to assess. No manual can cover every eventuality so it up to you as the professional to do what is most appropriate using your judgement and experience.
I often ignore MIs because they are not on site in front of the problem and I am.

Each to their own, can of worms me says.

Damage someone/their property and you’ve not met the OEMs requirements the man with the little hammers going to have something to say about it.

You’ve also given the OEM a perfect excuse to worm their way out of any future warranty claim.

Plenty of cases where someone’s done something with the intention of making it safer without understanding the design intent and actually caused problems.

Personally, I prefer to do a job that nobody could come later and do the finger poking at it.
Tbh, we probably all do that at times to other people’s work.
