manifold

In mathematics, a manifold is a topological space that locally resembles Euclidean space near each point. More precisely, an n-dimensional manifold, or n-manifold for short, is a topological space with the property that each point has a neighborhood that is homeomorphic to an open subset of n-dimensional Euclidean space.
One-dimensional manifolds include lines and circles, but not figure eights. Two-dimensional manifolds are also called surfaces. Examples include the plane, the sphere, and the torus, and also the Klein bottle and real projective plane.
The concept of a manifold is central to many parts of geometry and modern mathematical physics because it allows complicated structures to be described in terms of well-understood topological properties of simpler spaces. Manifolds naturally arise as solution sets of systems of equations and as graphs of functions. The concept has applications in computer-graphics and augmented-reality given the need to associate pictures with coordinates (e.g. CT scans).
Manifolds can be equipped with additional structure. One important class of manifolds are differentiable manifolds; their differentiable structure allows calculus to be done. A Riemannian metric on a manifold allows distances and angles to be measured. Symplectic manifolds serve as the phase spaces in the Hamiltonian formalism of classical mechanics, while four-dimensional Lorentzian manifolds model spacetime in general relativity.
The study of manifolds requires working knowledge of calculus and topology.

UFH Joist system and Manifold selection - Evohome

Evening all I have been researching the hell out of this, following my last project. Currently ripping half the kitchen out to remove a wall and make our downstairs open plan - If you wouldn't mind me running my plans by you to hopefully pick any obvious holes in. Current floor is standard T&G...

Underfloor heating - supply & return flow temperature question

Hi I have a wet based underfloor heating system and I've noticed that the stone floor in our kitchen isn't warming up evenly. There is one patch that is much warmer than other areas. I have noticed that when I look at the manifold the supply temperature is running at around 50 to 55 degs but...

    Manifold upside down? New plumber!

Hello. I need some quick advice I hope! The plumber who is doing our extension, different from our original plumber, has said this isn’t right and needs changing? Any advice really appreciated. Thank you

    Microbore manifold problems

Hi all, I need to replace a copper microbore manifold but can't find one to match. Just moved to a 30 year old house, copper microbore c/h system. Bathroom radiator not working when moved in. Had boiler replaced, (failed its service), which included power flush but it didn't clear the radiator...

Manifold actuator caps spontaneously popped off?! Is this a problem?

All. A couple of days ago my wife, upon hearing a whistling noise in the cupboard where the manifold is, noticed that one of the actuator caps was missing. Specifically, it was scattered throughout the cupboard (as if sprung by the...spring). Please see pictures. We have yet to re-fit the...

UFH heating problem - No manifold

My builder has fitted the UFH piping and then the screed and flooring but has not put in a manifold - What can we do? Can we just hope that the system works when the manifold is fitted? Obviously we don't want to tear up the floor and screed?? I've read it should have been pressure tested and...

UFH Conundrum - No flow through manifold. Please Help!

Hello, I have a polypipe UFH system which has been recently installed, and there seems to be little to no flow going through the manifold. I'm not sure that it has ever worked properly. Bizarrely, the only time I get any flow at all is when the mixing valve is closed off - this is when all the...

Air release valve leaking at UFH manifold - why?

Does anyone know why does an air release valve fail (ie leak) on a UFH manifold? This results in pressure drop on the boiler - so no hot water. It happened about 18 months ago - and was replaced - and now it has happened again. Is it just bad luck? Faulty part? Not correctly installed? Is...

Water manifold installed and plumber disappeared, has anyone seen a manifold like this before?

I received a call from a customer who has asked me to take a look at works carried out by a plumber. He has installed UFH to the entire ground floor of this large property. The floor is screeded and finished, there are a few loops that haven't been connected to his lovely manifold but I'm given...

    Thumping manifold, bouncing flow meter

I have a Rehau underfloor heating system on the ground floor only of my house. Every so often, the manifold makes a knocking/thumping noise. When I look at the flow meters I can see the one that's making the noise and the little ball in the flow meter is bouncing up and down (so the water...
