Evening, I have been asked by the builder that I work for to look into providing a wood burner that can provide some of the heat requirements in conjunction with a boiler, to be honest I haven't fitted anything like that since years ago when we were installing parkways, , some questions,
are they efficient
how do you control the heat coming from them
what sort of controls are recommended
thanks in advance guys

Are you HETAS? If not then leave alone. Or bring in a HETAS guy in with you and pick up the info that way.

Someone suggested to me that I fit a thermal store (or at least have one fitted anyway). I've a Rayburn more or less ready to go into the kitchen and that's my plan. Thermal store will accept multiple heat sources. I'm hoping to get some advice and possibly even find a suitably qualified person to carry out some of the work. Ideally I can do the low techy and time consuming stuff. I'm not qualified though so don't think I'm allowed to realistically complete the job.

I'm no expert on any terms but my thoughts are, efficient only if you can get the wood for free or dirt cheap, can't control the heat much so need a vented system that's suitable for solid fuel - 28mm feed and return pipes etc. Thermal store I think should have the controls i.e. heating pump and stats.

It's a Rayburn Royal but I'm planning on fitting an enhanced boiler. Got top off already and the existing boiler out.

Haven't 100% decided yet. At this stage I could just fit fire bricks and do without the hot water, just heat the kitchen with the actual cooker.
