Hi,

A friend told me to come here to ask about an issue I have with my washing machine.

Only happens every now and again, but it seems to bang and grind a bit when doing it's fast spin. What can I do to check it or is it time to replace the old thing?

Maybe the shockers have gone are the concrete blocks moved. More in the realms of a domestic appliance engineer.

Give it 5 minutes and everyone will be throwing abuse at him. Then croppie can ban him and close the thread. Just another night on ukpf!

Washing machine is like 10 years old. So delivery bolts are out yeah.
I'd asked on facebook and a friend sent me here. You guys should stick a suggestion in to the owner to see if an appliances section would be of use as there doesn't seem to be one.

Abuse: used to it.

Should I take the top off and give it a spin see if there's anything loose? Or am I not allowed to do that?

Are you zanussi, hotpaimg registered ? Whip lid off send us a pic might be belt or motor

This plumbing forum will not provide advice to anybody with regards to washing machine repairs or any other form of washers without you first providing us with your washing machine Registration number in a thread - for very obvious reasons. If you're not qualified to touch washing machines you should stay well clear of trying to!

Are you Appliance Safe Registered? I expect it's down to all the bits of tile that have come out of your pockets.

I'll take the top off but not tell you I have done so. And take a picture and see what's going on down there. Somebody just said on facebook it could be the belt being dodgy. It does seem to work fine though and it's only noisy for a second or two per load. Seems to be when it kicks in on the fast spin.

Check the floor underneath it as well. My parents machine started dancing about and the pillar under the floor had dropped a few mm. A few bits of slate under the joist sorted it out.

Sometimes its the top and sometimes its the back to take off either way at 10yrs old it could be the concrete block that has moved or you might find a broken spring if as Bod said it`s still level with all feet touching the floor.

Yeah it's level and firm. I'll take the top or back off tomorrow when I get a bit more time and see what I can wobble/spin. :) Take a few pics for you.

Bolts on concrete blocks loose.
Shot bearings (can't be changed on a Hotpoint as welded).
Object between inner and outer drum.
Loose plastic mixing arms inside drum.
Cracked belt pulley on back of drum that opens up when spinning.

That's all off the top of my head!

at ten years old id use it till it goes bang then get a new one i definatly wouldnt spend anymoney on it

just buy a new one with the least buttons and fastest spin speed and large load capacity, she'll be happy whatever it is.

actually its not all about spin speed drum diameter makes a lot of diffence a big drum at slower speed can be better or so my last washing machine man told me
