Urgent - Advice Appreciated Please

Hi all,

I bought a light stone resin shower tray from an online supplier last week. Came to fit it for my customer on Friday and, as the attached pictures show, I couldn't get the legs fitted to the tray. The screws are splintering the stone resin tray or in some cases just snapping in half. I have even tried pilot drilling the holes and the screws just won't go further than half way in.

The result is I can't fit the feet. Having emailed the supplier the photos, they are refusing a refund as I should have screwed straight through the plastic foot bracket into the tray. What they don't realise is I have already tried this with identical results, so I've removed the foot brackets to show them the issue clearly.

As I've supplied the tray I accept I'm going to have to buy another one elsewhere and take this up as a separate issue. I am so annoyed at this but would appreciate some impartial opinion. Am I right to be seeking my money back?

I've never trusted the legs on these due to the weight involved and it might only be a matter of weeks until something happens where the whole thing has to come out (at my expense).

Instead I make a frame then put ply on top. Good jump around to ensure it doesn't move or creak then a whole tube of decent glue. Never had a problem ... famous last words!

must admit ive never seen legs that screw into resin cast bases looks like a night mare im definatly a timber base man

Looks like a design fault to me, the properties of the base would make screws a nightmare!

I've fitted a coupke like this previously and they've been a nightmare, screwholes full of resin and screws not tightening, resulted in plywood base being constructed.

I prefer mira flight with the riser kit, spot on or the good old plywood and timber.

You should be able to get a refund though as it's not 'fit for purpose' under sales of goods act.

Have fitted lots of these types of trays and now use timber and ply bases as mentioned above . It will solve your probs and wont have the hassle of chasing money back which you prob wont get anyway .

Well unusually the manufacturer has contacted me. Apparently some stick on pads were supposed to be supplied which weren't. They're going to get them out to me for Monday so I can do the job. Agree with constructing a timber base from now on though. Never had any hassle with leg kits before though to be fair.

Wouldnt trust stick on pads.

Make a nice sturdy timber frame with plywood top and loads of gripfix to stick it down and a tube of silicone round the back to stick it to the wall and make sure no leaks if the bead seal fails.
