TRV's on Radiators

Hi all -

Quick question - a lot of the TRV's on our radiators were broken when we moved in. I want to replace them, but I've noticed that they are mounted on the TOP of the radiator, not the bottom - the other pipe is connected to the bottom at the other end of the radiator. Due to space limitations, it looks like I'll have to put the new ones at the top too.

Is there any reason or advantage in mounting them at the top? I've just never seen it before so was curious!

Its marginally more efficient to pipe them up that way (TBOE - top, bottom, opposite ends) than the more conventional BOE (bottom, opposite ends)

Aesthetically its not so pleasing, so we don't often see it in domestic premises, but its commonplace in commercial installations, where squeezing a few % of efficiency can add up to big numbers.

The only time I really put trvs at the top is in disabled properties for easy access for them. Otherwise most people prefer them at the bottom.

lifetime homes spec on new builds is top and bottom, looks ok if pipework is hidden.
