Rubber bungs for loft tanks

Sounds like a good alternative to draining the tank while I replace teh gate but when I do the calcs there's only about half a pound of water pressure keeping the thing in. I don't know whether I am happy with that when there's 50 gallons of water in it ready to escape. I would be happier if there were some kind of spring loaded contraption that I could put between the bung and the other side of the tank to improve its security.

Anyone know of such a device? Home made even?

Your what? Bung or Jet Swet? Can you post a pic if it's the bung so I can see what type it is? Cheers.

I was looking for that one on Amazon and eBay. No sign of it. I think it's the first time I have wanted something that I can't find on those two sites.

Bung in the tank had always worked for me, if it’s open vent central heating you are dealing with, then I use a speedfit stopend on the vent pipe in preference to a bung ( as it can’t fall off). Although once you start to drain down the vacuum which forms helps to hold the bung anyway.
Remember to only have one open joint/ cut pipe at a time - otherwise you lose the vacuum and you are in big trouble!

Bought a couple of these. Arrived today. They look ok. Like they will do the job. Will I have the bottle to rely on the 22 mm? That's another matter entirely. I'll probably fit the 22 after I've drained the tank!!!

That is one of my concerns. The drain might be furred up.

Some tank fittings have internal "splines" for a an Allen key or something to stop rotation while fitting it and attaching pipes. Rubber bung no use there.
I changed a valve last year. Made a mushroom shaped thing and put PlumbersMait on the flange. Turned a tap on slightly, reached into the tank and held in in place as the water in the pipe drained away so the tank pressure held it on. Worked no prob.
