How to fit an outside tap guide & advice from Homebase

OK, so they are giving sound advice about fitting iso and double check valves, but the advice about soldering is stupid!

"Only use push-fit or compression connectors. They're much simpler to fit than soldering, and solder doesn't go well with water. "

Obviously they meant that soldering won't work well were there is a problem with water in the pipes, but stupid they worded it so bad.

You're probably right - I didn't think of it that way, I thought they were on about lead and potable water...

But as a new install it shouldn`t have water in the pipes?

I was thinking they maybe meant where it needed to be teed into existing mains pipe.
But I could be wrong and maybe whoever wrote it was confused about lead solder.

Good point, not written well at all is it, thinking there are pushing the diyer towards pushfit.

Although I hate push fit, maybe they are wise advising to use it. If someone needs to read advice on how to pipe an outside tap from Homebase, then they don't have much of a clue and even compression joints are probably too risky for them. Likely find the olive not compressed or on end of pipe.
I hate the way too basic a DIY advice is given - like " tighten compression joint 3/4 a turn and turn water on to check for leaks."

Let's face it, if you need those instructions you are best to just leave it to a professional and save half a day :p

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...
