Hi Chaps,

I'll shortly be fitting a new washing machine in the kitchen - the current one being inconveniently situated in the garage:(

The only practicable location is as shown in the following (poorly drawn!) sketch:
washer.jpg

A solid fuel Aga used to live in the chimney breast, but it was ripped out and will be replaced by an electric range cooker.
The only access to a cold feed pipe is at the sink, so the new feed to the washing m/c must make its way through the existing kitchen units and chimney breast walls. The waste can just exit through the wall to the soil stack just outside.

What would be the best approach, without having to pull the kitchen units? Is it acceptable to run the pipe within the units, rather than behind them?

Thanks

May be copper pipe across chimney breast to allow for heat from cooker, but elsewhere plastic Hep2O to minimise joints. Plastic pipe lies on floor and requires no clips. Have lever type isolation valve at sink.

Many thanks for, as usual, some good practical advice!

Chatting to a DIY 'guru' at work would have had me ripping out the units and going copper all the way (endfeed fittings, naturally!). I can see why plastic pipery might offend the 'purists' in some situations, but for a DIY 'hidden' job, it seems to fit the bill quite nicely.

Cheers!

Hello, I'm installing a new kitchen which will have a dishwasher and washing machine. As I'm cutting/teeing into the cold mains 15mm pipe (before the kitchen sink taps) to feed the dishwasher and washing machine is it worth fitting a isolation valve with a built-in check valve? Regards Tezzer
