Are you able to identify this tap?

Hi, I have a really annoying (and wasteful) kitchen tap that won't stop dripping. I think it's from my hot water pipe as it stops when I switch off the hot water supply. I presume it means I need to change the washer, however, I have no idea how to access it. Does anybody here recognise this tap and can tell me how to access the washer - there's no obvious way I can see. Thanks!

Hello celie,:welcome:to the forum.
not familiar with the tap, so not sure without investigation,
is there not a screw or something holding the handle on, have you tried gentle persuasion?

but apart from that one of the handles looks damaged anyway, might it be time to buy a new complete tap?

Hi Simon - thanks for the reply!
There aren't any visible screws and I've tried a little gentle persuasion but was fearful of damaging it. The bit that looks damaged is actually where parts of the handle unscrew - I've taken all these bits off to see if I could work out how they're put together, but to no avail.

Would love to have a new sink and taps installed but can't afford it right now, alas. :disappointed:

Most taps have a screw on the top of the tap itself that unscrews and I think you're probably familiar with this type. Occasionally though the taps may just pull off. It takes a firm pull but nothing that would otherwise harm the taps so try just pulling. From there you should be able to access the insides of the tap.

Otherwise, and it's a bit of a pain, you might have isolation valves below the sink on the pipework that you can turn off to prevent the dripping. These only cost a couple of quid and are easy to fir if you have a bit of plumbing knowledge and a pipe slice. Best of luck.

Hi Plumber Guy - you were right, these taps just pull off and I've managed to get a closer look, however, not sure how to proceed - thought it'd be much simpler and I'd get to see where the washer is. If you have any advice on how to proceed it'd be appreciated.

I have isolation valves under the sink but they only stop the dripping by switching off the hot water supply.

turn the supply off and the nut part will undo (anti clockwise) the whole guts of the tap will come out, thats where the washer will be. You will get a bit of water comming out.

Exactly as Whyme says. The washer is on the other end of the tap body. You may have to prise it out of its collar to replace it or undo a very small nut to let the washer off. Get the right sized one, fit it and replace the tap. Simples!

If it is a ceramic disc type take the head to where ever you get the new guts cos sometimes the generic ones dont fit many heads..
