HI folks

am new here and I've been given a nest thermo stat.

I am am good with fitting things if know where to put the wires. I've a vallient ECO PRO 28 boiler can someone possible help how I wire the heatlink to it pls as it not got the same wording as the nest instruction.

Cheers

you got a room stat/ external programmer at the moment?

Nope at the moment I have a salus wireless thermo program stat. But I looked at the wiring on that and it seems different

do you have a clock on the boiler then?

No clock on boiler..

There a wifi box hard wired to the boiler and I have a wireless programmer thermostat I put in my chosen room

any chance you could take a pic of the wifi box/ any wires going to the box to the boiler?

Removing the cover of this boiler (from memory) exposes bits and bobs you shouldnt have access too.
If you need to enter the casing you need to be GSR.

If you can complete the task at hand without doing that then fair enough.
Probably 4 or 5 wires on the salus.
LNE and L1 L2
Or 4 wires
LN and L1 L2

It can be 240v and thats where my advice ends as if we have a misunderstanding you could be electrocuted

Hi

Well here the images are it currently connected. Of course I know to turn off at main if wiring.

Hope this helps

In what ways that was all installed professionals 3 years ago by a gas safe company who have a few vans don't tell me they done it wrong. But it been working

Cable clamps down on the cores rather than the cable sheathing in both pics, plus the boiler looks to have a dedicated 240v outlet feed so why squish all the cores into the boilers incoming supply...

Sure it works. Just a bit lazy. The white plastic blocks with the plastic screw are wiring clamps and the flex should be clamped with this. You have single cores threaded through. It's rough and not done as it should be. The clamps prevent accidental yanking out of the wires from the pcb

So in theory he should of uses a twin wire for the brown and blue so the white flex can stay on up to there rather than be cured off where it is. I suppose the flex got taken off as too many wires?

Anyway how do I connect nest heatlink pls

Can I have a pic of the nest plate please

But you didn't need to take the boiler cover off

Took cover off to make sure the wires in right place for you

I've not opened the box yet just incase I send back and get nest to come out as a bundle price. As nest charged ÂŁ250 all in

if got someone do it they wanted ÂŁ120 then the cost of nest ÂŁ199 so a lot more.

But it here a link to nest

i can't appear to send links to sites keep throwing up errors

You could get a local nest installer in, I'm not familiar with that exact boiler, normal set up for combis is Live and neutral to the heat link, then link the live to common If 240v, which is 2 on the heat link and then call for heat goes to 3. If your not confident in establishing which wire is which then I do think you should get someone in.

Am not paying ÂŁ120 for a 5 mins job so guess I take this back and get a package for ÂŁ250.

Can't you see from the images what I should connect to pls?

On the nest you should have 4 connections L and N sure you know where these go and the other two are your stat connections live from the boiler to your wifi controller is com and live back to boiler (fire) no

But now this is a big but does the nest work on low voltage as your is only 24v do not put mains to the pcb

Yes I can see and take an educated guess but that's what it is an educated guess. without physically seeing and testing I'm not willing to give that guess out.

Guess I just take this back tmr then get it ordered via nest. Rather pay nest ÂŁ50 for install than ?120 I've been quoted.

120 seems steep, there is the set up and demonstration for the customer, have you asked a couple of installers?

Yes I have ask 5 they all wanted too much the ÂŁ120 was cheapest.

If the connections on the boiler was labelled what what it be easier but it as pictured

But I don't think I can have the nest wired to the boiler without trailing wires to it. So is wireless problematic if so I won't bother just stick to my current set up

But I though need wireless to do remote access

dont know nest but arnt they all remote access, and its just wired it wired directly to boiler and the wireless uses a base (e the base is wired to the boiler and the nest it free to mount anywhere) might be wrong as dont fit them

Do u fit any learning stats pls

no as i find there more hassle than there worth unless your on different shifts etc

I guess you prefer the programable ones I don't have s issue with mine. But I just wished when I am away it can turn on a day before I get home

What you are paying for is expertise, someone who pays tax, has to run and insure a van and a business and will no doubt stay there till its sorted. Ohh and after all that he also has to make a living.

They will also set it up and test it and help make adjustments.
If that is the going rate - then you know your options.

I know what your saying but if nest only charging ÂŁ50 extra for installation it no brainier so might as well go that route

Really should of looked into it before you brought it, could of saved yourself a Sunday.

I though it be a simple wire up looking on nest video but my boiler appears different

It is easy. If you have a volt meter and method / knowledge you could work it out if your competent. I can see what you need to do being familiar with the boiler and also a nest installer/supplier. But for safety reasons its best you stick to your plan B.

Don't try to be a cheapskate, Nest purchase and installer is a no-brainer. Takes all the hassle out of it and you know it will work[emoji106]

It not About being cheap sake it about funds as we a low income family. If I was comfortable I be happy to pay out

Was going to get missus intelligent heat control for Xmas, but having read through this post she'll get thermal vest, same as last year.

Just been looking on Nest forum and it appears on there people have same boiler as me and use the 24v connector doesn't matter which way to 2 and 3 on nest

use 2 as com (black wire)
use 3 as no (Grey Wire)

but as you have said get the pro version and get it fitted for ÂŁ50

My point is if all it need for me take the wires out of my current wifi box. Putting the brown and blue in L and N and putting black in 2 and Greyin 3 then that easy for me do all I needed is confirmation this is correct since it only 24v

what you need to find out is does the nest use its own live to turn the boiler on if yes you cant use if no your fine as what your have said

The Nest should be able to work on both High & Low voltage. So you could easily connect it up with the current wires. And as Shaun said, you need not have removed the boiler cover. Just turning the boiler off, removing the 3amp fuse, then wiring it up and use multimeter to check would have been sufficient. The N & L are no isues, just the Com & No. But if low voltage, then you should be ok. I do fit ''Smart Thermostats'', but not advisable to give someone info that could lead to them being zapped. If you return to the Nest Community, they should be able to tell you how to go about it.
