If a drain valve is leaking from the inners can you just screw the inner section out and screw new inners. Unsoldering and replacing the valve would be a night mare due to postion

It can be done if you have a like for like valve.

The only problem is that sometimes manufacturers change and the newer valves aren't exactly the same as the old ones and hence don't fit

Or could I just get a new washer for it? Guess only way of knowing is.to unscrew and see if a new one will screw in. Is about 15 years old

Buy a new valve, if the spindle fits - it fits, if not at least you will have a washer that fits.

Tightening will be Out of the question?

Obviously try that first lol, but depends how old the thing is & state of the washer! If your drainging down to change maybe just fit the new soldered one?
