Humming noise all around house

Can you turn water off further upstream say a tap on pavement or front garden to see if noise stops.

The water company did that but could only turn it off for a few minutes as the valve feeds 3 houses so wasnt off long enough to notice as it was through the day and TV was on at time only realised they had put it off when they came to my door to make sure I had water coming through. They also did other tests to see if there was a leak underground anywhere but say there isnt

It could be the sure stop switch, turn off the stopcock before this switch and see if that stops the hum.
