hi i am a apprentice plumber and i am on a trial run with a gas registered plumber and we will be replacing a hot water cylinder with a combi boiler and i wanted to know how this is done so i have some knowledge for when we do the job on Monday. can anyone help?????

isnt this the reason your working with someone as an apprentice? go learn on Monday, if you start telling a potential employer how and why you wont get any jobs, but if you go and fetch and carry quickly and leave your bloody mobile at home you might get back on tuesday.

As above, keep your phone in your pocket and on silent too. Break times be the last to sit down and first to stand up ready to get on. And never, and I mean never interrupt pop master

I think an apprentice that does there homework is just as good as a dog

Basically you get ch pipes from wherever you can and the hot and cold. You chop out all the gear you don't use. You probably get sent in loft to strip out tanks.

1 make sure they are dry

2 ensure you know what each pipe is before you remove as you may find that there is a balanced cold from the cwsc to main bathroom bath / shower

Everyone has said most things, listen to what you are told, try to help the best you can and so interest in what you are doing.
Good luck :)

All of the above. Plus if you think there's nothing to do, tidy up.

And treat every home with the respect you would like your home treated. I once caught a love slave jumping up and down on a bed while removing a box section. He left the job by the scruff of his neck.

And also as said before. Never. Ever. EVER interrupt pop master. Such occurrences result in indescribably intense agony......

If you want to understand how to change systems then the best way is to look at diagrams and layouts of each different system as you need to understand the functions of each system b4 you learn how to change them so look at some books b4 job,,,

Hi there you want to take all the guys advise Kris's advice was particularly good study schematics etc.Dont try and tell plumber how to do his job(ive had this before) he will probably work in a totally different way that you've been taught.
DONT try too hard this can cause accidents. All the best bud let us know how you get on.

I think it's great to hear a young person so keen to learn and understand your forthcoming career, there is so many uninterested young people who just turn up and go through the motions, good for you mate, and the advice given here about phones, cleaning up and respecting someones home is absolute gold, customers like a smile too.

I don't think so tbh ! He should be asking his boss and not trying to be the cleaver one or at least listen and memorise what his boss told him when the last conversion took place !!

agreed safegas, just felt it was refreshing to hear some enthusiasm from next gen tradespeeps!

By all means study up on how the two different systems work. It will make it easier to understand what your boss is explaining. The best way of learning is by listening and watching, but any prior knowledge you have will mean it all sinks in faster.

Dont be put off if you are still confused or unsure after the job is complete. It takes a long time to fully understand the ins and outs of it all. You never truly realise how much you know until you are out in the real world without the safety net.

Take it all in, ask questions and study in your spare time. You'll soon find it all clicks into place.

To be fair pop master is pants the anorak quiz on planet rock is miles better sorry and all that but it is
