my firebird one fell off my keyring yesterday..... have a spare but to be honest its as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike!!!

It looks like it can tell you one and a half out of 3 things

a) You Do have power

b) The capacitor+windings MAY be OK

c) Should be spinning--but best-Check old way

Yeah, it also tells you the direction the pump is spinning.

Its certainly not to be trusted completely but I find it a handy little thing. If it's noisy on site, and I can't hear the pump, I'll often whip out the keys, and put it to it.
