Honestly not sure how the tanks know when they are full. Not sure if valves are inside the tank.Any pictures of the tanks?

That's going to be a very time-consuming process. I think you will soon want to get a plumber to fix the pipework so that each tank feeds the correct dwelling. It should be a relatively quick and easy job for someone who knows what they are doing.So I was just going to use that to fill my tank.
