Hi guys,

In work today I got sent to have a look at a shower. It was a galaxy 2000 LX. The tenant complained that the flow is ok one minute but almost none existent then next. Before I did anything I turned it on and it seemed ok. I isolated it and checked the filters, got a bit of muck out but not a lot.

Put it back together and tested it again and the problem she reported was noticeable straight away. The flow did increase but would keep acting up.

If i used the flow buttons on the controls I could only take it down 2 notches before it would stop completely. If I had the head of the shower down in the bath it worked a lot better. This problem occurred the same whether it was on hot, cold or in between.

Are this showers suitable for use with a pump?

In answer to your question I don't know.

Tell the tenant to have a nice hot bath as its Easter.

If the buttons don't work properly plus the water AND pump stop together then you need an SG06184. If the pump keeps running then check the end of the shower hose nearest the head, could be a twisted liner in the hose.

Hi thanks for that. I had the head off yesterday and it all appeared ok. The pump continues to run what ever i do but the sound changes. Spoke to the boss this morning and he says we are changing the shower.

We don't usually do repairs on electric showers but I am booked on the Triton course this year so I can get a bit of knowledge so when working for myself I can complete the repairs.

If the sound is changing then it is probably water starvation. You will likely have the same problem with the new unit if you fit the same one. The 2000LX is very difficult to get the air out of. Make sure the hot water connection at the cylinder is correct (air free). Run the shower without the head on and apply a little pressure over the end of the hose with your thumb while it is running, do this repeatedly and eventually the air will release.
