Flue Location.. Is it a Balcony, a Car Port or a Soffitt?

Hi. I'm new to all this, and not sure it's appropriate,

so be gentle with me.
This flue is to my newly fitted replacement Ideal Logic Max boiler. The position is the same as it was with my old boiler. I have been told in the past that it was incorrect, but my fitter has assured me it is now OK with this plume kit. It certainly seems OK, and the plume directs away from the door nicely. I realise it's not a Balcony, a Car Port or a Soffitt, but reading the guidelines I'm not too sure it's right. I obviously don't want any problems with Ideal if a warranty claim is ever required.
Any advice, reassurance would be appreciated. Thanks

Definitely not right to me. But cannot see much in the Manufacturer’s Instructions. Cannot even see a flue locations drawing and table. I would say needs changing. Is that passage a public right of way? Or just to your house?

Totally agree mate, I just don’t understand why some engineers force an install in sometimes why make it difficult or run the risk of someone telling you to change it

If it were me, I would extend the flue to above the roofline above and point the flue terminal towards the neighbouring property or back towards the tiled roof.
I would have the terminal a minimum of 500mm above the tiled roof.

Tricky and grey area, but I would do this as a minimum to at least attempt to get the plume away from the entrance.

You would need to speak to ideal, but I would come out the wall with an elbow and an horizontal flue extension. Then the terminal and plume management kit, so that it clears that low roof. Making sure that the flue is correctly supported. I wouldn’t go vertical. There looks like that there could be boundary issues. This is just an idea and would need to be checked by ideal first as not sure there standard flue can be used externally.

I suggested taking the plume kit up through the false ceiling, and 90' through the back. I'm guessing it's not allowed to box in the elbow though.

Annoying thing is, shifting the boiler wasn't a massive issue, but fitter insisted this option would be OK, and much cheaper. Now What though? Fork out for more plume kit, or a days work to resite the boiler?

Thanks. How would you suggest I approach this. Should I speak to Ideal Myself, or insist my fitter gets the OK from them(or otherwise) before I pay?

It might actually be ok. Looking at the measurements for the plume kit you can actually run the outlet 25mm away from the wall. The only thing which may flag it up, is the distance from the door. I know it's not a carport or balcony but the characteristics of the opening are similar and this instance I would aim for the 1200 measurement.

Google ideal boiler flue accessories and download this pdf. It's worth a note that only one minimum measurement can be taken down to 25mm and then all others would be subject to the standard minimum distances, and I feel this may be too much info for the public forum so remove it if you feel it's necessary

I would still check with ideal though as that isn’t in the MI’s

If you think about it, the outlet up against a wall shouldn't be an issue, it won't cause a negative effect on the boiler output and the only reason we have a min measurement for internal corners is due to possible POC build ups entering back down the air intake.

Thanks for all your help guys. As suggested, I contacted Ideal tech support, and they came back with:

Thank you for your email regarding the flue. The flue has not been fitted to manufactures instruction,

• The air intake is too close to the door
• The flue is not open at 3 sides (only 1)
• The air intake is under a different pressure zone to the exhaust

We would recommend your installer would need to rectify the flue.

My installer has agreed to sort it at no cost to me. Whether that is a complex flue arrangement or resiting the boiler. Up to him I guess.

I'm going to push for moving the boiler, the job I'd been quoted for originally until I got talked out of it. The plume in the area at the front is a nuisance anyway.
