can drill tap holes ina steel bath without damaging the enamel.

Just pulled out bath cust has bought and no tap holes.Not seen this before every steel bath i have fitted has always had them. Whats the best way to put tap holes withiut damaging the enamel.

I have done it in the past using a spring punch to create a start, and then just tape and patience and a tight sphincter.

Diamond would probably cut the enamel OK then you could switch to bimetal and take it very carefully. Best of luck though as once cut it will rust if not very well protected.

BTW make up a holder in plywood for the bimetal as you won't have a pilot. The 365 drill have a guide but fear this won't be man enough for the bimetal.

Just use a 6/7mm hss bit for a pilot hole and then use a bi metal hole saw. About 28mm I think. A new bit will do it easy enough.

Same thought pattern . Lenox do diamond grit cutter will go through both. Be really carful not to heat metal as will blister enamel also clap timber to back of bath to prevent burst through and distortion.

im with dan just use a pilot drill first use a bit of masking tape to stop the bit slipping maybe even startb with a 2 mm hole then open it up to the sixe of the hole saw pilot

If it was me, I would be telling them either to change the bath or have wall mounted taps as they have obviously bought the wrong bath.

Fit it and give them a bucket to fill it from the kitchen sink. Problem solved.

How did you get on with this Jules? You said yesterday you were doing it tomorrow and tomorrow is today.

put it off till tomorrow as i've ordered a carbide grit holesaw specifically for this kind of job.
Will let you know how this goes.
I'm not too worried about it it will either work or it wont cust has agreed to get an acrylic bath if it doesnt go to plan .
