Heating oil is any petroleum product or other oil used for heating; a fuel oil. Most commonly, it refers to low viscosity grades of fuel oil used for furnaces or boilers use for home heating and in other buildings. Home heating oil is often abbreviated as HHO.Most heating oil products are chemically very similar to diesel fuel used as motor fuel; motor fuel is typically subject to higher fuel taxes. Many countries add fuel dyes to heating oil, allowing law enforcement to check if a driver is evading fuel taxes. Since 2002, Solvent Yellow 124 has been added as a "Euromarker" in the European Union; untaxed diesel is known as "red diesel" in the United Kingdom.
Heating oil is commonly delivered by tank truck to residential, commercial and municipal buildings and stored in above-ground storage tanks ("ASTs") located in the basements, garages, or outside adjacent to the building. It is sometimes stored in underground storage tanks (or "USTs") but less often than ASTs. ASTs are used for smaller installations due to the lower cost factor. Heating oil is less commonly used as an industrial fuel or for power generation.
Leaks from tanks and piping are an environmental concern. Various federal and state regulations are in place regarding the proper transportation, storage and burning of heating oil, which is classified as a hazardous material (HazMat) by federal regulators.

The CH kicks in when there is a demand. However, it ignites, makes some noises for 30 secs and then gives up.
If you then turn the hot water on, the boiler bursts into life as normal. When it's turned off, if there is still demand for the CH it tries again only to give up again 30 secs later...

Hi,
We moved into a house in July and due to having to do work on it, yesterday was the first time the boiler has been turned on.
I removed the wired thermostat. The way it was wired was using a 3 core and earth wire with the neutral going to N, Live going to L, a link wire between L and...

Hi all,
I'm after some advice on what to replace my now defunct hot water system with. What has died is a Heatrae Sadia R6 (S#61927). The steel tank has rusted, gone porous and leaked hot water across the attic. I'm exploring whether simply replacing this is really the best solution for our...

Hi All,
I've recently purchased a flat built in the 1930's and am having some trouble with the central heating.
Firstly it's an indirect boiler (two cisterns on the loft with expansion pipes) but only run by an electrical immersion heater.
I've replaced the old 27" immersion heater (it's...

Hi All,
This is my first post to the forum - brought on by a lack of central heating....!!
We have a Ferroli Modena 80E which has been fine until recently.
Central heating water pressure had been dropping recently. We'd top it up a bit, back to about 1 bar. That'd be fine for a day...

Hey guys,
I've got a 3 year old Main Eco 25 combi boiler that's suddenly stopped working for central heating, hot water is working fine on the taps.
We don't have a wall type thermostat, each radiator has it's own setting (always on full - 5), we just flick the switch on the boiler...

Hello,
I just moved into a house with this boiler. It was last serviced in June, but I imagine the CH part hasn't been used over the summer. Just before I moved in a couple of days ago, I had some plastering done that involved removing and replacing two radiators. I was told they...

The pressure on the gauge is fine, there are no error lights but even if I turn the CH temperature up to max and turn up the thermostat the CH...
