Just fininshed a report on another dodgy flue on a keston. I'd rather not touch this peice of rubbish.

Check out the video I made here:

Keston C25 - Faulty flue (High res) - YouTube

Check out this for a nice flue termination:

And this was after remedial work was completed late last year. How do they sleep at night. I'm up and its 1.30am just writing the report. crazy.

I hate keston flues, people always seem to have installed them incorrectly.

I refuse to touch them after what I have seen when I worked on the books at my previous firm, they eneded up just ripping them out and starting again with a new boiler. I won't ever touch them now like previous posts have said they never seem to be installed correctly so I think its just wise for me to steer clear of these boilers. Also I stter clear of powermax's as I have heard that the flues on these are dodgy too!

The boiler casing is also all rusted and the paint is blistered.

I have changed two boilers in the building allready. All for landlords.

The trouble is, I'm not sure what to change this for? It will still need a rather long flue run of around 2/3 meters. Might be more cost effective to actually repair this pig, alter the flue and install inspection panels inside.

In the building I changed one boiler for an electric flow boiler as gas just wasn't an option as there was no way I could run the flue. One I changed for a WB, balanced flue, easy.

This one, I'm just not sure. That air vent that you can see by the flue termination is venting the void through which the gas supply runs, so the vent has to stay.

Anyone want a job!!!! ;)

Dannypipe, i think the main problem is the Kestons have been fitted by others who obviously dont care, I have fitted the C55 and found them to be a great boiler, the fact the flue can be run some 30-40 metres individually is a great help at times, especially as one was in a cellar, The main thing is to fit the flue correctly as per MI's, termination is up to the individual, in this case I would have sent the air supply upward (as in plume management kit) and elbowed horizontally. plus in black (not as conspicuous)

Thanks Stani, I will have to have a good peruse of the MI and see what I can do with it.

The worst one I found had a section of flue made from a coke bottle and duct tape. That was in the same building as this one above. So who ever installed them clearly doesn't give a monkeys if some one gets hurt. It was on the air inlet but still, it beggars belief.

from a coke bottle and duct tape

this is probably one of the reasons that we now have to fit inspection hatches so that we can indeed see what some muppet thought was a good idea at the time. The good thing about a forum such as this is to find that there are actually more quality engineers than there are cowboys, hopefully, lol

there is a development near me where they have used c25 in the kitchen and run the flues straight out over their front rooms, so hopefully I wont be doing any of them , regarding powermax I knew a potterton engineer and he told me to avoid them as there is a a problem with the flue rotting out on them

good post danny, nice video.

i personally have never fitted one of these but unless the MI are useless i cant really see how they can be so poorly installed apart from total incompentance..... this is where gas safe should find the original installer and stop them trading.

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
