Afternoon all,

Here comes an unconventional post:

I'm not actually looking to do any plumbing, rather I'm looking to use cheap PVC pipes and fittings as a building material for a DIY project. The problem that I've come across is, that in the UK, I can only seem to be able to find over complicated (e.g. John-Guest style) push-fit components when all I really want is the simplest type, which seem to be frustratingly easy to obtain in the US.

Basically, the contraption that I'm hoping to build is a Steadicam Merlin II rip-off, to a design that is a slightly modified version of the one in this video: (*It somehow won't let me put a link, so YouTube "Frugal Floater"!*) . Skip to 3:34 to see the sort of parts that I'm looking for. Any information on where I can source these items (either in an actual shop or via the internet) would be much appreciated, indeed, if anybody on the forum has some bits of scrap lying around, I'd be happy to give them a loving home! (Obviously I'd be happy to cover any postage or other costs!)

Thanks in advance for any help or advice,

Will

Hi, those actually look great, the only problem being that I only want three 90degree elbows, and one 135degree! If I *really* have to buy everything in packs of 10, then that's what I will do I suppose, but I can't think what I'll use all the rest for! Maybe I'm just being an idiot, but I wasn't able to find the same item in 15mm, and if you look at the video at just after 5:05, you'll see that if the diameter gets too big, it'll become difficult to attach in the groove on the back of the slider rail? :s

I realise that was a slightly negative response to some really useful help; my apologies

Steve, many thanks for that! It seems my problem was looking under "pipes and fittings" and not specific "waste" or "overflow" pipes! I've done some measuring and 21.5mm ought to just fit inside, so now I have the elbows, and I can buy the pipe, (I've even managed to find 3m instead of 30m at Plumbase.)

But finally (apologies for being so clueless) I couldn't see any caps or plugs on the Toolstation site, or Screwfix, Plumbase or anywhere else I looked!

Nearly there!

Thanks thus far

Will

I hadn't tried McAlpine, but now that I have, I still can't find a cap/bung, and McAlpine seems to be a manufacturer, not a retailer, which isn't ideal when you're trying to source items! :S Thanks for the idea though :)

I know, but you should find what you want there, most merchants stock mcalpine and what they dont have, they can order in.

Overflow pipe and fittings are 20mm. You can join this to a threaded overflow connector for a toilet cistern and use a reducer down to 15mm.
