Firstly, I am useless at plumbing!!

I need one of those devices to stop water hammer. My question is that under my sink I have a spare 3/4 inch male cold water connector (the ones you plumb your washing machine hose onto).

Are there any devices out there that I can screw directly onto this connector to save getting a plumber in to fit it in the middle of my pipe somewhere??

nope,

by the sounds of things the 3/4 connector you have will if fitted with a pressure reducing valve would only stop the waterhammer to any outlet downstream ie the washer!
if you want to reduce the pressure you need to fit a valve closer to the stop tap than any branch pipework on which the problem occurs

Depends where the water hammer his happening. Mine happened when the watering system filled to the outside tap operated. A common problem with watering systems apparently despite a pressure reducing piece as part of the fitting. It occurred on nothing else. I made a diy device via a tee onto fitted to the pipe fitted to the tap. You can buy a water hammer arrester though. Does it happen throughout or is there a particular device that causes it.

My water pressure is not unusually high (about 3 bar). The other question is how high is your water pressure. If it is high or if the problem is throughout then, as kay-jay says above, a pressure reducer after the stop tap.
