Hi guys, been quoted 1550 for direct replacement of baxi combi 105he with a baxi 830, I know the engineers.. So paying roughly 500 for Labour. What do you think? Plus this is with thermostat fitting etc. I thought about 1300/1400.

Tbh I would say that’s cheap but if you know the engy he might be helping you out

roughly the kit comes too around £11-1200 so around 300 labour

does that include a flush ?

Sounds cheap too me by the time you allow for pipe, fittings and all the consumables needed for a boiler swap
Does the gas need upgrading?
Will the system be flushed?
Lime fighter & shock arrestor needed?
Boiler plus controls?

Its all great trying to get the cheapest price but if its not fitted properly the warranty will be worthless

Thanks Shaun, not sure if it does include a flush. I do the know engineers from work. He did say that they would usually charge 900 to fit.

Thanks Scott, includes pipework, not sure about the other points you have mentioned. These are corghi registered engineers who carry out these works often.

Gas Safe registered etc

There is no way anybody can do this for 1300/1400. The 1550 that you have been quoted is a bargain providing everything is done correctly so I would advise you to take that I doubt you will find anyone else to do it for that price

Too cheap, cutting corners somewhere.

Tail light warranty.

So how long should it take to replace a boiler? Like I said

Thanks J, I do know them so they are doing it cheaper for me, he did actually say it would usually be about 1900/ 2000. Thought I'd check just in case with you guys that know. Thanks again.

For me it’s too cheap to be genuine.
It’s £1200 for boiler, flue, lime fighter, shock arrestor, chemicals and cheap controller.

leaves £350 for 2 men, 2 visits and a few hours of admin.
Also pipe, fittings, clips, flux, solder, screws, plugs, sand and cement. All assuming gas and condense are already adequate.

Then someone has to collect boiler, clear waste and hope don’t get a call back.

have you had a formal written quotation ?

You will require a new flue you can’t use anything from the old baxi

also does the company allow them to carry out there own work after hours eg competition as most don’t also they will state there not qualified out of company time etc

Shaun, the other person has his own company.

And he’s going to be the one registering it correct so you should have a formal quotation off him etc for warranty

Low quote is obviously tempting even when you know the installer the thing you should be aware of is your guy maybe miscalculated which is easily done he will then either realise and take the loss or ask for more money. If he takes a loss you may well find that he will be reluctant to return if any issues arise later on or he will be reluctant to work for you again as by giving you a blinding deal he will think you expect this next time as well.

If you are satisfied with the way everything had gone I would consider giving the guy extra money on the side to keep him happy and keen, you may well get that money back the next time you are in need of his services.

He is self employed mate. So should know what he is getting into.

I will mate , I do know them well and have done for a long time, . Thanks for your advice.
Agreed.

Both parties should also understand that a fairly effective way to finish a friendship is to turn it into a business deal that is not equitable.
Not equitable? Because they aren't charging me 800 pound labour for days work.

Just for comparison...
Tommorow will get new combi valliant boiler installed, removal of old vented system, boiler and pipes, install shower from boiler and removal of power shower. Plius boiler will be moved in loft (pressure adequate).
One day work and 2500 .
Working two pro and apprentice.

After hours boiler replacement, by one full time employed plumber and one self employed plumber ( who can't manage to do the job during business hours )
Cheap price?
Formal written quotation?

Don't expect much!!!!!

And then there's you who comes on here wanting to know if your overpaying.
You quote the price of the boiler and then question the installation price.

Guaranteed, you will get a crap job done, no warranty and no back up service.

Hope this is helpful!

Tell us what you really think mate. 😂😂😂.
One question to ask is will the registered engineer be on site the whole time? Or just to fill the paperwork out.

All completed, took 8 hours in total, paper work signed and registered by my friends company.

good and your happy ?

Yes it's all working fine, thanks. I'm sure some people do jobs for people cheaper when they know them. Not sure why it caused an uproar. Thanks again though for your views.
