Discuss Run out of oil - lockout in the UK Plumbing Forum | Plumbing Advice area at PlumbersForums.net

Hi all,

I have recently run out of oil - the sensor in my kitchen is faulty so we’re completely empty. I’ve topped up my tank today to tide me over until delivery but my boiler (grant vortex eco wall hung) is still in lockout. I’ve read around and think I need to bleed the air from the system to bring the oil into the boiler. My issue is I can’t locate the correct valve to do this. I’ve attached a photo - if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be fantastic. Thanks, Joe

You will need adapter not just something simple sorry to say best to fill up and call an engineer out or the supplier might be able to do it for you

If you’ve run completely dry of oil you will definitely have an air lock and almost certainly drawn crap into the pipework. Strainer at tank and any downstream filters and small bore valves need to be checked and cleaned/cleared. Is there a tiger loop on the oil line? These should self prime, although not always.
As much as you want to fix yourself you are better off getting someone out. If you start fiddling on that pump you can chuck all sorts of settings out unknowingly.
