Problem with connector - tubes not linking together - help?

Hi there,

I'm trying to fix a bit of plastic piping that falling away from it's connector but can't seem to get it back it and it held firm in place, please can you help?

Please see picture here of the problem:

I've tried screwing it tight but it won't hold, just slips out - it leads to a drain so water from what I think is the sink in the upstairs kitchen is coming down through it.

is the rubber ring there that goes around the pipe behind the nut in the sequence on pipe, nut-plastic ring-rubber ring. the rubber ring forms the seal when the nut is tightened, forcing the plastic ring onto the rubber ring.

No, doesn't look like it - have taken off the nut and checked but can only see what looks like a thin clay coloured small ring... What do I do?

you need the rubber ring. easiest way is to buy another compression fitting of the same size for the pipe and just use one from that.

Thanks Steve, how easy is it to buy - local DIY store? Anything I need to say, provide (measurements etc?)

if you take off the fitting that is already there and ask for exactly the same they will be able to help either from the likes of b&poo or local hardware store.

look inside the fitting, bet it will be jammed up inside, use a thin blade screqdriver to get it out, and as advised put the nut on the pipe, then the thin plastic ring then the rubber cone washer, thin side facing into the fitting, when tightened it will be solid, could be doing with clipping the pipe to hold it in place, any plumbers merchants will sell the fitting, best buy is McAlpine multifit, which looks like what you have.
as for size, if it is from a wash hand basin it will/should be 32mm, if a kitchen sink bath or shower it will/should be 38mm
